Ok So i realise there are 2 meanings to the word 'lying' but in this case I'm wondering about the phsyical sense.. how would you feel about lying down on the couch in therapy?

I think this is a concept more widely used in psychodynamic/psychoanalytical therapy and although i've never been asked to lie down on the couch it is something that intrigues me. My ex therapist once asked me to lie down for about 10 minutes and we did a relaxation exercise.. i really enjoyed it, but that's not quite the same as lying down all the time for therapeutic purposes.

I personally would feel very scared to lie down on the couch.. the idea of being fully 'open' and 'vulnerable' is scary.. but at the same time i think it would open things up to a totally different level. I would really like to try this out one day, although i'd have to really trust the therapist first.

How do you feel about lying (down) on the couch? Has anyone had experiences of this?

I personally would feel VERY silly. I prefer to look out the window because I can see the world out there and it removes me a bit from therapy. When I need to engage I find it easier to sit on the floor with my knees to my chest. Good blody language :p

Lying down also actually brings on anxiety for me anyway (I sleep propped up in bed) so I think it would personally add stress to the situation.

However, I know of someone who actually found it very beneficial and helped her to work with her therapist in a much more positive way. I guess maybe it depends on the person and their needs?
