View Full Version : Dreams & their meanings?

Do you believe your dreams have a deeper meaning? Freud was hot on this and i agree that dreams symbolise things/feelings in our real life..

.. for example i once dreamt that i had a piece of glass stuck in my throat. I knew that i needed to get it out but i didn't know how to.. i knew it would have to come out very very carefully otherwise it would kill me on the way up.

I am sure this dream represents my "issues" and represents myself in therapy (i was in counselling at the time). I feel it was saying that there's some really 'deep' work i need to do, but i need to do it at my pace, slowly and with someone i trust otherwise it could be damaging.. but once complete it will be really beneficial as the glass will no longer be in me!

I've had variations of the dream since, including a mouse in my tummy, but they've always been similar.

So, have any dreams struck a chord with you? Do you believe in dreams' meanings being the unconscious mind at work? :)

Personally I think some have deeper meaning but I also think that some are just getting rid of junk from the day.

Interestingly though, my an my brother were raised in pretty different ways (I was constanlty invalidated and brushed aside, my brother was the other extreme and completely mollycoddled) and yet we still have VERY similar reoccuring dreams that involve us trying our hardest to run away/escape from something not being able to. I found that really interesting because there must be a reason for that and despite our different upbringings (we live together but were treated very different) we still seem to have similar deep issues.

I dream every night, but they are more like nightmares. I do believe they have deeper meanings, I just wish I knew what they were....

I agree. With me, stuff that I'm thinking about during the day will often come up in my dreams. I sometimes dream that I need to do something, but I never end up getting it done. Like one night a few weeks ago, I had this dream that my arm was really sore, and I wanted to go to the hospital for it. I tried to get there, but I kept getting distracted so that I would go off and do something else instead of going to the hospital. The dream ended before I even made it there. It's like what I need to do is in the back of my mind, but I never get it done. Huh, something to think about.
