Last year i was working for a PCT while studying or a post grad diploma in psychology.. and i left in August after finding myself a proper job! At the end of August i found they still paid me my August Salary (ok it wasn't much, i was part time and badly paid) but i thought "shhhhhhhhhhhh" (naughty naughty!!). But then in September when they did the same again i thought there's no way i can keep this money, especially as it's the NHS and they need it! So i contacted my manager and told her. She said she'd contact payroll
That was that... never heard anything else...
And today, 7 months later i've got a letter from them asking me to pay back £1300!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhh i'm buying a flat at the moment and have put all my savings aside for the deposit!! I kinda had forgotten about this extra cash and am now wondering how to pay it back! I think i'll need to contact them and say it was THEIR mistake and i put them right, so they will need to let me do it in installments now!!
woooops!! :oh:

Ouch, that's irritating! I hope they let you pay it in installments... paying another lump sum on top of getting some place to live is the last thing you need right now.

I think you should offer to pay back £1:00 a week Jenny or maybe even 1p !! :D

I wrote to them and said i couldn't afford to pay it all back in one go so will do it in installments, and i gave them a plan of when and how much i'll send. Haven't heard back from them so am assuming all is ok! :fence:

This is similar to what happened to me - when I stopped working as a district nurse to have my 3rd baby I was overpaid by a month. I contacted them and it all went quiet - then my baby was born and it went out of my mind to chase them.
few months later I started to get letters where they wanted it back - sadly we'd had xmas by then and I'd (eek!) spent it.
I swear the NHS is in chaos when it comes to finances!

Totally! They waste so much money on some things and then don't have enough money for other fundamental things. I hope you got your overpayment issue sorted out - they still haven't contacted me again to say whether it's ok or not for me to pay a little monthly so am just gonna assume it's fine and dandy. I'm looking at it as an interest-free loan

On the flip side, I recently decided to declare to the taxman (ok so i should have done it sooner but hey ho) that I have a flat in Devon and am renting it out...... I was expecting to be fined or at least have to pay about £1000 in tax to them covering last year, but after doing an online self assessment they've refunded me £560!!!!
:groupwave:
(not sure how that worked out but i'm not complaining!!)

As far as I'm aware you only need to pay back the September money, you can pay in installments, my partner was over paid and only paid back £10 per month.
If you notice the NHS are very slow when they owe you money but when you owe them they want it yesturday.

I don't know you and I know this is irrational but I may be beginning to hate you! :)
Same situation and got hit for £1,100 tax bill and threatening letters!

Yikes! I am actually wondering if i filled in the forms right!! But i guess the difference is that last year i was in a really really rubbish job which paid very little (NHS) and i was part time so maybe my overall salary despite renting out my flat too, was still quite low..
Good luck with sorting yours out though! Sounds stressful x
