I have some trouble with some "ghetto" english...can be hard to understand that and some heavy southern accents (in the US).
You're lucky having the very last Harry Potter! I'm jealous!! I suppose I could bump it up on our rental list...the second one is supposed to be the best of the two. So tell me, was the second one better than the first??
Old Wolf
5th December 2011, 02:40 PM
I assume you are referring to the last two films i.e. part 1 and part 2 of the final book? Personally I think I enjoyed them equally. If I have any criticism at all it would be that I would have liked a little more expansion of the "happy ever after" bit at the end. The book gives more detail of what they were all doing a few years later. Apart from that a very good end to what I can only call an era.
We're awaiting the last part of the Twilight Saga (film) which we have also enjoyed in a totally different way. We were saying last night that it's going to be difficult for anything to follow these but I'm also sure that before long something equally deserving of praise will come. In some way I see this sort of thing as just another facet of the beauty of creation.

Yes, I was speaking about the final Harry Potter book and the 2 films made of it. I really enjoyed that series of movies (and books of course). In some ways, though, I think I liked the earlier books better as they were a bit lighter...they got darker (as they had to) with each book; less fun, more action and angst. What do you think?
Old Wolf
6th December 2011, 06:21 AM
Yes, but I think that is part of what is so brilliant about her writing. As you say they got darker as they progressed but in an organic way and the story, cleverly, grew up with the children in it and those reading it (including us big kids!)
The Twilight series on the other hand started full of teenage angst and the awakening of the characters sexuality and matured as they grew older in an adult way.
Both of these series of books manage to maintain that balance between fantasy and reality necessary to make the whole thing feasible which is what makes the story easily believable and allows you to connect with the characters.
Here endeth the "Book Revue"..............

I'm at a bit of a loss for words today...feeling a bit crabby this morning. It's very humid today and rainy and I'd really like to go back to bed, but at the same time...I don't want to!! So I'm contrary today!!! People need to get out of my way today I guess!
I agree with you about the Harry Potter books (haven't read the Twilight books)...I know they have to grow up...too bad though.
Old Wolf
6th December 2011, 12:07 PM
Hi ya crabby. This is when the distance is good - I can say that because I feel relatively safe! It sounds as though you are even falling out with yourself - not so good?
It's quite cold here and made worse by the fact I have a heavy cold - one of those where you spend times feeling chilled to the bone. (Another benefit of distance - you can't catch it!)
Being called for dinner now so must go............................
Katmandu40
7th December 2011, 03:23 AM
Sorry about your nasty cold...that really sucks!!! Hopefully I'll be in a better mood tomorrow...actually, my mood improved later anyway (at least a bit). I didn't bite anyone's head off anyway! I think I'm feeling a bit stuck again and that doesn't help...lost some momentum. To try to be fair to myself, I guess I should give myself some credit for getting a little bit done and not putting the rest out of mind. It's so hard to change though....grrrr.

7th December 2011, 05:38 AM
Did you try the exercise it was suggested you try? The one where you look back with your present adult eyes on childhood experiences? I only ask because that can sometimes lead to a brief period of real anger accompanied by feeling a bit low. This is actually a positive thing - it's the original, contained anger being freed!
The trouble with this cold is that it drags on so. I have clients today and I don't like to cancel unless there is no other option so I hope it eases a bit - it often does once I'm up and about!
Katmandu40
7th December 2011, 12:00 PM
Ok...this is going to sound a bit strange, but I think I did to some extent, but I can't really remember....creepy. I'm just not sure. I know I still didn't write it (the exercise) down as asked.
Poor Old Wolf...I do hope you feel better soon. What you need is a "hot toddy" before bed tonight!!
Old Wolf
7th December 2011, 04:01 PM
I'm feeling a good bit better now - it's often the case that once I'm up and about these things improve. Mind you a nice glass of Baileys Irish Cream sounds very tempting for later.
We are off out shopping in our local supermarket shortly. I have to go and write my list before we go. It's not far - about 400 yards or so down road but we still need to take the car as it is way too heavy to carry home!!
On the exercise front --- why not try doing it on one single event in the past while you are with your therapist?
I'm away again now, talk later (tomorrow I guess!)........
Katmandu40
8th December 2011, 03:35 AM
I thought you did all your shopping on Fridays. We had a steady cold rain here today....yuck...I hate cold rains! Would rather have snow!!!
Yes, I see her tomorrow and will have to get clear what it is I"m supposed to be doing as I'm not completely sure....I should have emailed her last Thurs. night about it. Hope you have a good day tomorrow!!
Old Wolf
8th December 2011, 07:30 AM
We do the supermarket shop on a Thursday as a norm but if I'm free at all on Wednesday we sometimes do it then. On Friday I walk down into the town and get other bits and pieces.
Good luck with your session today and I hope you get it sorted as it would be nice for you to get things under way. I'm wondering actually if you might be avoiding doing things suggested to you. Avoidance is quite common really - it can come about without you even realising it when, unconsciously, the prospect of getting well can be frightening, terrifying actually! What can happen is we see "well" people out and about, going to work, having relationships etc, etc, in fact doing all the things we find stressful and then we can't cope with the idea that if we are "well" we will have to do all these things as well so, unconsciously, we decide it's safer to stay "unwell". What we are missing is the fact that when we are "well" none of these things are overwhelming! --- we are viewing being "well" from the viewpoint of still being as we are - "unwell"!
If there is any chance that this is the case it might be worth raising this point in therapy and exploring it with your therapist?
Katmandu40
8th December 2011, 09:39 PM
Oh the idea of being "well" is very scary!!! We have talked about it a lot. I worry about it a great deal...think of all the things I would have to take responsibility for if I were well!! Pretty scary stuff!
I know there is some avoidance...some for getting better, but more out of anxiety for trying something new. What's been suggested is a whole new way of thinking and goes against the grain...so to speak. There is a lot of things causing me some anxiety and it has come out in eating a lot again and putting things out of mind...not thinking about what I need to do (to some extent). I''m at a difficult spot in my therapy it seems.
Old Wolf
9th December 2011, 12:33 AM
This is often a real barrier - you are not alone in this. As I said before this is largely because you are viewing the future from the point of not being "well". One thing to hold in mind is that you are not being forced to do anything and whatever you try at this stage will not suddenly make you "better" in one frightening leap. Any change will be gradual - what I call organic - and you are always in charge of how far you go at all times. Another thing it is useful to know is that your "mind" will not permit you to progress at a rate that is in any way damaging or overwhelming - it will control the rate at which you progress to a level you can deal with. However, the most frightening thing to do is to start the process and it is here that some courage is called for. This is why it is essential for you to want to get better in the first place. Remember, someone who is not restricted in the way you are doesn't see normal living as traumatic or overwhelming - it is just normal life and if some things cause a bit of anxiety they are O.K. because they know they can deal with it. That is what "being better" is. Don't you think that might be worth taking the risk in the first place?
I'm off to bed now .... talk later......
Katmandu40
9th December 2011, 03:34 AM
I've spent most of my life trying to escape "life" in one form or another. I isolate and have since I was young...mostly out of necessity due to my father and his behavior. I pretended to live a "normal" life when I was working, but it was all an act...until I just couldn't cope anymore. The prospect of "normal living" is so alien to me...my therapist has had to tell me things that I have done were normal...everyone has done them...I didn't know. Sometimes I think I'd rather just stay where I am than go through all the anxiety and self anger it will take to change my mind-set. Is it worth taking the risk? I have no reference point....well, maybe one where I had at least one good year that felt what must have been "normal"...or at least close. It was nice.
Old Wolf
9th December 2011, 06:55 AM
It seems that perhaps the main stumbling point is your self anger. I have a pretty good idea what it is you are angry about but perhaps you could tell me what you think it is? This self anger is part of a vicious circle - the starting point even. It is a form of self criticism and this is what gives rise, at least in part, to the anxiety because when you despise your self in this way it destroys any self confidence you do have and then you just get more angry with yourself!
Soooo, tell me what you are angry with yourself for.
Responsibility and power are interlinked and one of the most frightening things is for someone else to have total power over us. When we are young the only way we can see to regain some of that power over our own life is to take responsibility for all that happens to us. However, if we remove ourselves, as it were, and reflect as adults we can see that there is no way a 5, 8, or 10 year old could possibly be responsible for what happened to them - they were made powerless by their own, perfectly natural dependency as children. This is what these exercises are for - to show you that you couldn't ever be expected to have reacted differently, that it is not you that you should be angry with. It's time for you as the adult to stand up and defend "you as a child" from such unfair criticism and lay the blame where it truly belongs!
Hang on to the memories of that good year because that is how it could be all the time if you're brave enough to set forth into the frightening uncharted waters of "getting better"!!
Katmandu40
9th December 2011, 12:23 PM
I know my anger is misdirected...I get angry at myself even if the anger starts out directed at someone else...it's safer. I get angry at myself for trying; for not trying; for being stuck; for not moving ahead fast enough...nothing is good enough! Just as nothing was good enough for my father. Everything you say makes sense and my doc and I have gone over this time and again (makes me angry at myself that we have to keep rehashing things). What you said has touched me...maybe it's just hearing it from someone else other than my doc...don't know.
What am I angry at myself for? My first response is "for being born" but that is silly and was not under my control...I guess, at this point in my life, I'm angry with myself because I feel my life was wasted...I was NOT a success for my mother to tell her friends about (not that she really has many friends). I failed at life....makes me angry and very sad.
Hey...this is supposed to be "Fun & Games"! Sorry for turning it into a soap opera (do they have those in England). Catch you later.
Old Wolf
9th December 2011, 01:24 PM
Yeah, we have soaps. I avoid them like the plague!
You didn't fail at life - you were failed BY life and some of those you should have been able to depend on for normal positive input. The secret now is to explore and seek to understand what has happened and possibly why and to do this from an adult perspective so as to replace the misinformation presently stored in your unconscious. The exercise your therapist gave you can be the starting point in this. If it feels easier to use the "other person" model initially so be it, it is just as effective, in fact for some more effective. What you say here shows that you know what you are doing now you need to understand why. As you do this you will begin to see that all that has happened to you is NO reflection on who you really are.
Being called for dinner so must away.....................

Seems I have a lot of work to do. Speaking of work...how is your project going? Did you get your mirror yet (don't remember if you told me or not)? How is the rest of the fireplace coming?
Old Wolf
10th December 2011, 07:35 AM
The fireplace is all fitted and looking good. The mirror was finally delivered yesterday so with a bit of luck I may get it fitted in place today. We've been getting the sitting room ready for it's carpet fitting next Tuesday - a clean down and freshen up of the paintwork, new curtain tracks etc. When that is all done I have a door to shorten, a loose light fitting to fix and some new glazing beads to fit on one door, some dado rail to replace and some panelling to install in the hall, stairs and landing before the decorator comes in the new year. The stair well is some 20+' high and I no longer feel safe teetering at heights so we are giving in and getting someone in to do it!! After that the carpet can be fitted and the end will be in sight. Mind you, I still have book shelves to make and fit in one alcove of the dining room and some CD shelving to fit in the other in the dining room. I had to leave this to get the front room ready - all these deadlines - I've always hated deadlines! Right in the middle of all this our (new) T.V. broke down yesterday and has been taken away. We're keeping our fingers crossed it will be back before Xmas.................
Katmandu40
10th December 2011, 12:09 PM
I'm exhausted just reading all you have to do!!!! We still don't have a date yet for the kitchen remodeling...need to prepare for that. That really sucks about your TV!!! Especially if it was new! I'd be furious...well, at least angry.
We have brought 3 of the outside cats inside so far. It's been interesting with Lady, our dog. She is being very good despite having been zapped by one of the cats a couple of times (she snarled at him both times...no loved lost between them). It seems to be going better with the other two cats though. We are going to try to make all the stray/outside cats...inside cats. We will have trouble with one in particular (won't let us pet her). Talk to you later!
Old Wolf
10th December 2011, 12:35 PM
T.V. -- just a bit angry! The supplier has brought us a spare so that we are not totally without one which is very good of them. The trouble is it has to go back to the manufacturer for repair so we are hoping it makes it back before Xmas.
How many cats indoors will that make? Sounds like a lot to me. The most we had at one time in the farmhouse was 5 but that included a kitten.
Have to go down the town again this afternoon. I bought some postage stamps for doing Xmas cards yesterday and was given the wrong ones so they have to exchange them!! B****y nuisance that is - I want to get the mirror up if I can today.
Have fun .... talk later...............
Katmandu40
11th December 2011, 02:13 AM
Well...we just let 2 more in from outside and that makes 5. My mother has 6 in her bedroom and I have 4 in my room. There are 2 more outside we'd like to get indoors! Poor Lady...she is now surrounded!!! She is being very good though. Wow...I just realized that's 15 cats in the house right now! We are becoming the neigborhood cat ladies!!!! ACK!!!!!
Old Wolf
11th December 2011, 05:38 AM
At the risk of being all heavy again ....................... It is very often the case that people (most commonly women) who have little love for themselves, very low self esteem, who hold themselves in low regard surround themselves with animals, most often cats. It has been suggested that this is an attempt to get the unconditional love that they should have recieved as young children and didn't! For all their independent nature cats are very good at "cupboard love" and therefore appear to respond encouragingly to any love and care lavished upon them and this can feel very satisfying. I am not suggesting this is not a good thing to do - such relationships to animals can help meet the natural need to feel loved it's just that it can never really replace the missing unconditional love of a parent. I think it may also be that the cat becomes a sort of surrugate self - a way of finally loving ourselves, something we all should be able to do.
Anyway................. 15 cats is a lot of litter trays and a lot of food.
Having said that ........... I loved our little "pussycat dog", Silky, and still miss him so what does that say about me?
Katmandu40
11th December 2011, 12:32 PM
I agree about the cats thing...but it's more my mother than me. She started feeding them outside. It started as one cat outside she was feeding (that cat is dead now)...anyway, it's been her project. I told her that once they were inside she would have to stop feeding any others outside (a couple of ferals that won't let us near them) or we will end up with a whole mob of cats outside again!! It doesn't end!! Very sad. Yes...a lot of litter boxes and expense. Too many cats, but they are too skittish to take them to the pound (they would just put them to sleep). So we are stuck. Oh well.
It says that you loved him very much and that he was a member of your family! It says you are a kind and loving man.
Old Wolf
11th December 2011, 06:19 PM
Thankyou.
Well -- the mirror is now on the wall and sitting on the mantle. Looks good even if I do say so myself! I have started inspecting and doing what few repairs are necessary to the front room floor as we remove the old carpet. Have to finish this off before Tuesday when the new one is coming -- pretty much on target with that which is a relief. I'm just about to call my Mum. She's not been very well - went into hospital - ended up in there for three weeks and came home worse in many ways than when she went in! I guess we have to get used to the idea that this is a one way road now.
Hope you're having a good day......................
Katmandu40
12th December 2011, 03:20 AM
Very sorry to hear about your mother...it's hard to know what to say. I hope it isn't as serious as the last time and that she is feeling better soon.
Glad to hear you are on schedule for your carpet and that is up and looks good...I mean great!!!
I haven't gotten around to doing the exercises/homework that my doc wants me to do yet....I seem to put it out of mind. I even find it hard to think of a time in my past to use for the exercise...I go blank. Interesting, huh? It will happen sooner or later though.
Old Wolf
12th December 2011, 05:13 AM
Ummm, It is interesting --- you've made a good job of burying it. Obviously, they are not times you want to think about. A suggestion:- if you use the remote method i.e. some other child, you can invent a situation initially. What I mean is that you know, even now, how he made you feel - the sort of things he would say or do - so write a story in your mind with your "character" being made to feel that way by her father. Remember this isn't you going through this - this is the now, adult you watching a little girl who is being treated in that way. Ask yourself 1) what would I want to do for the child, what is my first instinct telling me to do and 2) what would you want to say to her father? You might also ask what you would like to say to her mother?
Just a suggestion. Do you want me to nag you - give you a reminder each time on here - perhaps just say "storytime"?..........................
Katmandu40
12th December 2011, 11:58 AM
haha...no, I don't need you to nag me. Actually, as my doc knows all to well, the more I'm pushed, the more I tend to push back or dig my heels in. I will do it...it's just scary I guess. I might try the invention thing...my doc did say I could do that if nothing came to mind.
Good luck and have fun tearing up carpet today!!!
Old Wolf
12th December 2011, 01:06 PM
O.K. No nagging!
Carpet nearly gone - most of underlay gone. Will leave a bit to rest our feet on tonight and remove in morning. You've given me a "y" which means I will have to talk about yesterday --- nah blow that for a lark, "You've" just saved me!!
I'm going for a snooze now - hope your day is going well........
Katmandu40
13th December 2011, 03:38 AM
Today was ok...a tad hectic. The plumbers were here at 8am and there were workmen out front next door laying a new concrete sidwalk and there were workmen on the other side working on the electric and the garage....very noisey (poor new inside cats were totally freaked out and in hiding all day)!!!! Even after things calmed down, the cats didn't show themselves till later in the evening. Tomorrow....petstore shopping!!! We need lots of kitty litter!!!!
Old Wolf
13th December 2011, 07:14 AM
Is the plumber connected to the work on your kitchen? It's amazing just how stressful it can be when the outside world intrudes into the sanctuary we call home!
We have the carpet layers coming today about midday so I have to remove what is left of the furniture etc and sweep over the floorboards. I'd better get going and get my breakfast or I'll never get started. .........
Katmandu40
13th December 2011, 12:22 PM
No....the kitchen work will start the first or second week of January...I can't wait (joking of course). Good luck with the carpet (don't the carpet layers pull up the old carpeting??? They do here.). Hmm...still need an "r" word. It's been rather chilly these days, but still not too bad for December!
Old Wolf
13th December 2011, 05:15 PM
We have crazy systems here driven by daft government dictates. If the carpet layers take the old carpet to the tip they are charged but if a private person takes it in it's free (or at least covered by the Council Tax we pay!!) So of couse all carpet laying is charged as layed in a clear room.
We're off out to a neighbour for a pre-xmas drink shortly and I still have not had my shower yet so will leave you 'till the morrow.................Oh dear! still no "r" - rare things are "r"'s.....................
Katmandu40
14th December 2011, 03:51 AM
Oh yes...I remember you mentioning that to me before. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but then a lot of things governments do don't make a lot of sense to me!!
My mother made our first batch of egg nog a couple of days ago...yumm!!!! Has lots of booze in it and tends to make me sleepy...hehehe, but I love it. She makes it every year (needed an "e"). Hope you had fun!!
Old Wolf
14th December 2011, 05:52 AM
Yup. A good evening was had by all I think. Trouble is, I didn't get to bed until about 1-00 and I needed to be up early this morning which means I'm sitting here yawning!!
It's amazing how some letters never want to come out to play when we're doing this.
I must be off - I have to be in the therapy room in less than 1 1/2 hours! talk again later...................
Katmandu40
14th December 2011, 11:57 AM
OK get going...Today is a fairly hectic day here. Pack up boxes with the girls that come to clean (for when the kitchen work is done) go to the supermarket and I have to take a cat to the vets to get shaved in a lion cut (very matted fur). Sigh. Would rather go back to bed!!! Catch you later.
Old Wolf
14th December 2011, 01:15 PM
Oh I say - 'aint life fun?
I'm going to be off line from sometime Friday until Sunday evening. We're off to see our eldest daughter (weather permitting!) where we will be joined by our eldest son as well. It's close enough to the daughters birthday to give us an excuse to take her out for a meal apart from which it will just be great to see her.
Hope the cleaning goes well...................
Katmandu40
15th December 2011, 02:01 AM
Thanks for the warning...hope you have a great time with son and daughter!!! Tomorrow is my therapy day and I also have to pick up the cat from the vets (poor naked/shaved cat). We didn't get to the supermarket today...will have to go Friday. They got a lot done today...many things moved and cupboards cleared out!!!
Old Wolf
15th December 2011, 06:41 AM
Sounds like things are going well to plan on the kitchen front?
It's a good job the cat is indoors if you've pinched her coat!!
Therapy day ............... wouldn't it be great to be able to tell your therapist "I tried it once already" ? (This is me not nagging, not pushing, just coercing!) :-) Have a good trip later.
I've got to go and find a new Xmas tree and some other bits of shopping we need to get done before we go away. It all seems such a rush at the moment .......................
Katmandu40
15th December 2011, 09:26 PM
Sneaky!!! We talked about the exercise today among other things....why it's so hard for me to do, etc. It was a good, productive and hard session. I hope you enjoy your time with your kids!!! I'll miss you, but I'll survive :) . I've told my doc a lot about you....hahaha. I told her how the two of you think pretty much alike when it comes to my situation.
Old Wolf
15th December 2011, 11:01 PM
I'm glad you had a good session today. I was a little worried when you didn't show at the normal times - heightened no doubt by knowing you had a long drive today.
Ooh ... I've been spoken about in the USA. It's amazing how we can be present in our absence!
I will look in to see if you manage to get on again before I go..............
Katmandu40
16th December 2011, 04:09 AM
I guess my word is "you"....tsk, tsk. I'm fine...just the stupid router acting up again! Yes you are becoming well known by my doc....I no longer have to say "Old Wolf the guy I talk to from England who is a therapist on a forum...semi-retired." Now, I just say "Old Wolf" and she knows who I'm talking about!...LOL. You're famous! I think you and my doc would like each other. Hmm...still need a "u" word, don't usually have this much trouble!!
Have fun!!!!!!
Old Wolf
16th December 2011, 07:10 AM
Don't know what happened there - it was a "you" - I remember highlighting it but I couldn't have hit the Bold symbol!!
Just so long as your therapist doesn't feel I'm interfering - then I would be notorious rather than famous!!! :-)
Clever "u" word...........Ah! I have got a "y" word just not a lot different from the last one.
Bye for now.......... going, going, gone.....................
Katmandu40
16th December 2011, 11:42 AM
No...she doesn't feel you are interfering in the least. How did the carpet laying go? I forgot to ask about it. I guess I'll have to wait till you get back to find out. Again, I really hope you have a great time with your kids and I'll see you when you get back!!! Funny how we seem to end up with the same letters over and over again...sorry about the "y" again.
Old Wolf
18th December 2011, 04:31 PM
I was going to use "year" but then realised that put it back to "r" !!
Carpet laying went good - now awaiting the return of the suite which is away being re-upholstered.
Had a good journey down and back, thoroughly enjoyed our stay - but now we are safely returned. Yippee, relax, back home!
I see I have a new letter for you......................
Katmandu40
19th December 2011, 03:28 AM
Welcome home! Glad you had a safe trip. As far as letters go we usually end up with "e", "y" or "u"...have you noticed that? There are, of course, a few exceptions...hehehe.
Old Wolf
19th December 2011, 08:57 AM
I guess there are more words that naturally end with those letters - Ah well.
As always, the exceptions to the rules are the ones to watch!
Sooo, a "d"... that's damned awkward. Ummm, what can I have with a "d"? Of course!! More a case of what you can have with a "d"!!! :-)
Katmandu40
19th December 2011, 10:44 AM
I just don't know what I'll do with a "d"!!!! Are you ready for Christmas? The most celebrating we are doing is drinking egg nog with 5 different kinds of booze in it! We will probably have Chinese food for xmas dinner this year! Our kitchen is rather bare in hopes that the contractor soon will be there!
Old Wolf
19th December 2011, 12:06 PM
Chaos reigns on the festive front - we still have no suite and trying to do things while your fingers are crossed is not easy!
We have friends coming for the day on Xmas day with the traditional Turkey dinner planned providing we can get a last minute Turkey (our fridge is too small to store one in for long and the freezer is too full!!) We haven't really got much in food wise but that could be a blessing in disguise as I shouldn't eat as much as I tend to do at such times!
We are still putting up the decs - couldn't do it before because of the ongoing work. It took me over an hour to put the new artificial tree together last night after we got in from being away. Could have done without it really.

Sounds pretty hectic for xmas!!!! I'm glad we really aren't celebrating this year...we have exchanged a few gifts (already) and that will be it. No lights, no tree, and no turkey. Why did it take so long to put your tree together?? Ours doesn't take that long...you must have a pretty complicated tree!!!
Old Wolf
20th December 2011, 05:28 AM
It (the tree) is new and every "twig" had to be individually bent into position as the "arms" (branches) were folded down into place. We never open any presents until the day itself - they just sit under the tree until then.
Now the central heating has packed up!!! I will have to call the engineers in an hour or so and get them to look at it. It's telling me it has an overheat problem probably due to air in the system. It's not been right since it was serviced!! If it's not one thing it's another..................
Katmandu40
20th December 2011, 11:54 AM
Oh dear...poor Old Wolf! I hope it's an easy fix for the heating. We've had our share of trouble with that too and we have a new system (so to speak). Must be "Sod"s law"....yes? Did I get it right?
We used to wait to open gifts....but, we weren't even going to exchange gifts this year so the gifts aren't official xmas gifts... :)
Old Wolf
20th December 2011, 06:10 PM
Still cold here I'm afraid - no sign of the boiler man today, just hope he makes it tomorrow!
Yup, "Sod's law" sounds about right.
There's something a bit sad about that - not having gifts to give and recieve. How come you decided not to have a real Xmas. Mind you I remember someone else saying something about people in america making less of Xmas and more of Thanksgiving. Is that the case?
I now have a 'phone call to make so will "see" you in the morning.....................
Katmandu40
21st December 2011, 03:37 AM
We just don't get much enjoyment from it anymore I guess...we still exchange gifts, but we don't go all out...just one gift each now. I think the people of America have lost the meaning behind xmas. It's become so commercialized and people seem to treat each other with little concideration now a days (not just at this time of year). There have been some cases of where some went out of there way to help others this year, but all in all...I just don't like xmas as much as I used to.
Keep warm!!!!!
Old Wolf
21st December 2011, 06:36 AM
I really like Xmas - especially when there are children involved. When all the children were still at home and we had very little money we still managed to scrape together enough during the year to have a blow out at Xmas. We would have stuff we couldn't normally afford and although we couldn't afford to spend much money each of the children would have one main present, one small present and an item of "needed" clothing from us under the tree. They would also have a small bag of "Father Xmas presents" left at the bottom of their bed at night - simple things like a pencil or colouring book or such like plus some sweets and a bit of fruit. It still brings a lump to my throat when I remember the year when their Mum and I woke up to find we had been left a present each from Father Xmas as well. (It emerged much later that the eldest daughter had been the instigator of this but nothing was ever said until many years later).
Time moves on and now it's most likely that it's just us two here but we still enjoy it............
Katmandu40
21st December 2011, 12:37 PM
I used to love Christmas as well...the whole year was spent just waiting for that one day!!! That's a great story Old Wolf...I can see why it would have such an affect! My father, of all people, would leave me note from Santa that would be more than just a "thank you" note! I would be so excited...I left cookies and milk out for Santa and would awaken to find just a few crumbs and a wonderful note...not to mention a large assortment of presents under the tree!!! Hmmm...that was actually a time he didn't dampen my excitement, but encouraged it. A really nice memory :)
Old Wolf
21st December 2011, 01:14 PM
It's always good to see and remember both sides of a person. Maybe being Santa allowed the better part of him to emerge safely?
Still no boiler. It pretty much beat them so they have arranged to return on Friday when they have more time and will have to drain and flush the actual boiler!! Just hope they are successful - I can do without having no heat over Xmas!!
Have to get out now and deliver some local cards and possibly pick up our painting which is framed and waiting................... you've given me another "y" ..................
Katmandu40
22nd December 2011, 02:05 AM
That really sucks about your boiler!!! I do hope you aren't too cold!! You've given me another "e" so there!! Ever think about giving me something like a "t" or an "s"? Hope your painting is ready! Good luck with the heater!!!
Old Wolf
22nd December 2011, 08:05 AM
Oops, the kat is annoyed. :-) How about - "I hope our boiler isn't suffering from RUST." It's still not repaired, they are intending to come and drain and flush it through tomorrow morning which will, hopefully, clear the blockage that they think is the problem.
Otherwise we are as ready as we are likely to be I think.
I picked up the painting yesterday and will hang it today after delivering the cards I never got round to yesterday - shopping got in the way!!
Katmandu40
22nd December 2011, 07:51 PM
HAHAHA...Me annoyed??? Never!!!! A "T"!!!!!! WOW!!!! Well, I hope you have heat for xmas! How cold is it there these days? It's been fairly mild here. We need to go to the supermarket (ACK!!!) it will be jammed this friday before xmas!!!! Not looking forward to it at all!! Good luck with the nasty heater tomorrow!!!
Old Wolf
22nd December 2011, 11:44 PM
Thankfully it's fairly mild at present but it still feels plenty cold enough sitting here!
I went into town briefly this morning and it was very busy for a Thursday. Anyway, good luck with the shopping and I've got fingers crossed that our heating problem is easily solved in the morning.......................
Katmandu40
23rd December 2011, 03:29 AM
It's pouring here tonight!! Had a pretty good session today, but shorter than usual...doc not feeling too well today, but she didn't want to cancel me. It worked out well...I said what I needed to say and the session wasn't too involved which is good since I won't be seeing her next week.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and your heater tomorrow!!!
Old Wolf
23rd December 2011, 06:00 AM
What length are your normal sessions?
Thankyou for the finger crossing - the engineer should be here in about an hour or two so will just have to see how he gets on!
Like you, I will have to go into town today and see if I can get some of the perishables and fruit etc. That will have to be later after the boiler is sorted (I hope!)
We're nearly ready , how about you?..................
Katmandu40
23rd December 2011, 12:08 PM
I do 2 sessions back to back so the length is about 1 1/2 hours. I DO hope your boiler gets sorted out!!
Since we are having a very low key celebration...we are pretty much ready except for what we need from market. My mother has decided to make a roast chicken instead of a turkey and in place of chinese food...that should be good!
Old Wolf
23rd December 2011, 12:37 PM
Boiler is back on!!!! We have an air block on two rads but that is usual and should clear itself eventually.
Probably two 50 minute sessions - 1 hour 40 minutes?
It's raining here so unless it's absolutely neccessary I'll leave the town until tomorrow. It's mainly fruit and a couple of last minute things we need and there is a better market on Saturdays anyway.
Have you got each other pressies?..........
Katmandu40
24th December 2011, 03:20 AM
Two 45min sessions I think....at least that's how it works out.
Good to hear the boiler is back on!!! Yea!!!! The market was jammed today...what a mad-house! I'm glad we didn't need much. We already gave each other pressies...first we said we weren't going to exchange pressies...then we did! But, we didn't wait till xmas to do it. We are being very unconventional this year!!
Old Wolf
24th December 2011, 07:25 AM
You call it unconventional I call it cheating!! :-)
I have to go into town this morning - I hope it's not too manic..........
It's really frosty here this morning but the forecast is for it to come warmer. Good thing the boiler is working ..... although there are still three rads that refuse to circulate and heat up.
Katmandu40
24th December 2011, 04:17 PM
Is the engineer going to finish fixing things (the three rads)? I assume those are radiators...can you bleed them? Glad you have some heat though. It's a bit colder here as well today.
We are just one step away from giving up xmas altogether!! ;) Maybe next year we will do something...we shall see.
Old Wolf
24th December 2011, 09:29 PM
They are resisting all attempts to bleed them at present - they can stay like it for now - I'm on holiday!
It's supposed to be very mild here for next two or three days...
Blow it! I've just remembered - I meant to pick up some Crackers today but forgot all about them. There wasn't any real cream in any shops here today, all sold out!! That is bad news for someone like me who loves his whipped cream on mincepies. Oh well. there are plenty with nothing - what am I moaning about?
However you spend your day I hope you enjoy it.....................HAPPY XMAS
Katmandu40
25th December 2011, 01:33 PM
HAPPY XMAS to you as well!!! I'm having router problems as usual....grrrr. Can you manage your mincepies without whipped cream???? That sounds like a real hardship to me! Hope you have a great day today and enjoy your time off!!!
Old Wolf
25th December 2011, 02:34 PM
Thank you. Am having a good time - whipped cream substitute is nearly as good. How are you doing? Have company so will away again.......................
Katmandu40
26th December 2011, 03:13 AM
Glad you are having a good time...my day was pretty good as well. I didn't watch tv all day, but listened to xmas music!! Not all the usual stuff either, some of the old xmas songs and some celtic xmas songs...it was fun. Talk to you later....
Old Wolf
26th December 2011, 07:28 AM
Sounds good. We missed out on music because the CD shelves aren't made yet which means all the CD's are still in boxes!!
We were too full up to eat any tea/supper yesterday so our friends are coming again today to help us eat some of the cold meats and the Xmas cake etc!
The TV programmes we might have watched are all recorded so we will have those to watch at a later date.
Once today is gone I'll have to start preparing for the decorator. I have a door to shorten, a light to fix properly and another door to reglaze. When that's done I have some work to do to the lower hall and entrance area. ............................ Then, at long last, I should be able to get outside and catch up with that before Spring arrives. Hurray..............
Katmandu40
26th December 2011, 03:20 PM
Geezzz....I'm surprised you took took some time off!!!! :taunt: You have such a long list of things to do!!!
Well, it sounds like you've had a good time and plan to have more fun today....GOOD!!!!! I'm glad you're having fun. We had a good time too and a rather yummy meal though not as elaborate as usual...but still good and plenty of left-overs. By the way...you do know that winter just started don't you??
Old Wolf
26th December 2011, 10:52 PM
Oh, I'm not allowed to work at Xmas !! :-)
Good to hear you have enjoyed your seasonal break - everyone should.
Yeah I know winter is in it's early days yet but it takes me much longer to do stuff like digging the ground and shifting compost about and scrubbing out the greenhouse etc. etc. than it used to do! Of course there is the added complication that it could all be hidden by snow for weeks as well!!!
Our next guests are my youngest daughter and her family ( all 7 of them ) who are driving up the 200 miles to see us on the 30th. Just hope the weather holds for them.
Do you have any plans for the New Year? .....................
At least the days are drawing out now - roll on spring I say.
Katmandu40
27th December 2011, 03:50 AM
Sounds like you will have a house full!!! I hope you have a good time with them...you'll have to let me know how it goes. We don't have any plans for the New Year...most of our kitchen stuff will be gone and our dinningroom stuff as well (in storage) so the workmen can start on the new kitchen!!! The poor "new" cats are going to be really freaked out!!! They are only just starting to get used to being inside the house. Thursday the movers come to take away furniture and boxes of stuff for storage.
Old Wolf
27th December 2011, 05:50 AM
So how will you eat!? How long will it all take to complete?
There's a part of me wishes my daughter could stay for longer but another part of me is glad she can't -- they're lovely kids but they wear me out just watching them.
How will you keep the cats inside when people are in and out?
Katmandu40
27th December 2011, 02:02 PM
We will be using the microwave and a hotplate....also what you would call "take-away" for about 6 weeks!!! The work is supposed to start the 1st or 2nd week of January. The cats will be locked out of the kitchen area and the workmen will have to use the back door (kitchen door) to go in and out. It's going to be a yucky mess!!!
I know what you mean about the kids...they do have a lot of energy!!!
Old Wolf
27th December 2011, 10:17 PM
You'll have to keep me updated as it progresses. You must be having a lot done if it's going to take 6 weeks?
Didn't really feel like doing anything today .......... so I didn't! Trouble is I now have even less time to get ready for the decorator.
I guess I will have to get stuck in tomorrow. Part of the trouble is I got some books on my kindle and I want to read them!!
Katmandu40
28th December 2011, 01:40 AM
Was the Kindle an xmas present...or the books? I've been tempted to get a Kindle, but I don't tend to read much anymore...doesn't make sense. I used to really like to read...now I just don't do much reading anymore. My thought was maybe I would read if I got a Kindle. I'll have to think about it some more...spent too much money lately anyway so would have to wait for a while.
Old Wolf
28th December 2011, 06:43 AM
The Kindle was a "treat" for both of us - the books were a subsequent xmas present for me. I wasn't sure that I would want one initially but now I've tried it I think it's great. I love books as objects in themselves though but we are running out of space to put them. We now have an agreement that if I read any particular book on Kindle that I want to have my own copy of I can buy a copy otherwise, especially with popular fiction, I will get it and store it on Kindle. My other half is now going to get one of her own - she has an eye problem which is exascerbated by reading for any length of time but with the facility to change print size on the Kindle this is made easier! Another advantage is that all books are cheaper on Kindle and a lot easier to get.
Katmandu40
28th December 2011, 01:17 PM
Sounds really nice! I might like one, however, I'm having some computer trouble and may have to shell out for a new battery for my laptop and that's a good chunk of change. Not to mention still having trouble with the router...grrrr. I had internet for 1 hour last night. I keep having to use my mother's computer. I may have to buy a new router. FRUSTRATING!!!!!!! Can you tell I'm frustrated!!!! So, if I decide to get a kindle, it will have to wait.
Movers will be here tomorrow!!!! GOD HELP ME!!!!! Cleaning crew here today to help pack things up....just too much activity for me. Oh well.
Old Wolf
28th December 2011, 02:43 PM
Yeah, I guess that's life - having to prioritise has been the story of most of mine but now, at long last, things are a bit easier on the finance front and we are enjoying that fact!!
Our little office has no door on it at present as I've taken it down the garden to slice a bit off the underside to make sure there is clearance for the new, thicker, carpet.
P.S. Yes I can hear your frustration ..................
Old Wolf
29th December 2011, 08:20 AM
That sound of frustration is even louder today. I'm assuming the modem has packed up again? Ah well. I'll keep things going until you get back.
The door is back on the office now .......will have to try and get the light fixed and/or the bookcases sorted today.
Hope you are soon able to return, it's boring here without you - and lonely................
Katmandu40
29th December 2011, 11:36 AM
Only here just to let you know I'm still alive...although our router is trying to kill me!!! There is too much going on right now to really deal with the computer issues, so they will just have to wait. I will try to get on when I can...as I have been. Hope your day goes well...any plans for the New Year?
Old Wolf
29th December 2011, 12:24 PM
Hey! - good to have you back.
My daughter and family are coming to visit tomorrow - staying in an hotel for the night (2 adults + 5 kids!). We shall take them out for a meal in the evening and see them briefly before they head back home on New Years Eve. We might see our friends sometime over the weekend and we have some other freinds coming for supper one evening but not yet fixed.
What are you doing apart from avoiding builders?
Katmandu40
30th December 2011, 03:27 AM
Oh great...now my keyboard is acting up...grrrrrr. I'll be doing good if I manage to avoid the builders...don't think that will happen. I hope you have a great time with your family!!! We are getting a taste of what it will be like without a kitchen...since the kitchen is pretty much cleaned out now (sigh)...everything went smoothly with the movers today at least. Talk again soon I hope.
Old Wolf
30th December 2011, 07:12 AM
Two more days and we'll be in another year .........
At least the days are now getting longer again - we're officially heading towards summer now. The best bit comes before that - SPRING! I'm going to have to get caught up outside before too long.
Your poor old computer is probably being worn out with all the chatting we do!
I have a lot to do this morning so I'll away now and talk again later...................Have a good day................
Katmandu40
30th December 2011, 11:55 AM
I do like spring...but I really hate summer!!! I wouldn't mind winter if it stayed like this...actually, I like winter.
I haven't quite decided what to do about the computer...replace bits and pieces, or break down and get a new one...sigh. My "n" key is acting nasty...sometimes it works..sometimes it doesn't. Oh well. Seems I have some decisions to make. You have a good day as well...see ya!!!!
Old Wolf
30th December 2011, 10:44 PM
Why do you hate summer? I don't like it too hot but then again I worked a large part of my life in farming and in the early days that would include pitching bales of hay and straw by hand on some very hot days!!
Computers are like cars - brilliant when they are going alright and ********* when they aren't.
Just enjoyed a lovely (but expensive!) meal out with my daughter and all her family. Am now officially whacked!............
Katmandu40
31st December 2011, 01:30 PM
I hate the heat and humidity of summer...much rather the temps of fall, winter, and spring. Being very fat makes it hard to handle summer.
Sounds like you had a good time with your family...glad to hear it...a nice meal too!!!! Happy New Year's Eve!!!
Old Wolf
31st December 2011, 05:37 PM
Are your summers mainly hot and humid? We tend to get variety pretty much but I know what you mean - when it's hot and humid it somehow drains all your energy and just moving becomes a real effort.
I've been knackered today - children on mass are a bit like hot and humid, they drain your energy just watching them I find - there is a time for all things in life and having children is not now. Being grand parents is O.K. bacause you get to hand them back!!
Mind you, I wouldn't want to be without them for the world.
Soo, it just leaves me to also say I hope you have a GREAT 2012 ........... Happy New Year!
Katmandu40
1st January 2012, 03:58 AM
Yes, our summers can get nasty. I know what you mean about children...lol. I'm not surprised you are knackered!!!! I don't think I'll get to sleep too early tonight...people are setting off cherry bombs in the area...the cats don't like it much!!! Well...it is only 3 min. to midnight! Hope you also have a great 2012 and that all your projects work out to your satisfaction!!!! Happy New Year!!!
Old Wolf
1st January 2012, 09:04 AM
Thank you.
We have a lot of fireworks each New Year - it's becoming almost traditional now.
I see from your last post that there is in fact a 5 hour difference between us? Don't know why but I always thought it was 6.
Soooooo, here we are in 2012 but it doesn't feel a lot different to 2011 yet. I wonder what the year will bring. Personally, I hope it will bring me more time when I can be more spontaneous rather than chasing preset deadlines. In my experience the nicest times in life are when I am able to respond almost organically to what is happening around me - be a part of the larger, wider world. what say you..........................
Katmandu40
1st January 2012, 12:44 PM
I was going to say each year is pretty much the same as the last...but maybe I can change that. I have been so a part of my own inner world...maybe I could try to be part of the outside world more (NOT a New year's resolution...don't believe in those). Maybe this will be the year I get a volunteer job and stick with it. We shall see!!!
Old Wolf
2nd January 2012, 06:25 AM
Oh dear! What happened there? ....... I Know ........... I rushed away to get my dinner (I was being called) ....I must have forgotten to "post" my reply, Ah well. Sorry about that.
Well, one thing I do know is that things can be changed - I guess that, in a way, it all depends on what we each really want. It depends if you can see past the lies that you were told about yourself and see the real you. I have every confidence in you, I know you are O.K. but then my vision is not clouded or confused by the "lies" about you that you have had to live with. It's time to wake up to the truth and see that you never were useless just "lied" to by someone who deep down believed themselves to be useless.
Katmandu40
2nd January 2012, 12:39 PM
I wondered what happened...hahaha. Thought maybe you got tired of the conversation! ;) Well, we will see what the new year will bring....besides a new kitchen and maybe a new computer (haven't decided yet). This one is only 4 years old, but in computer years I guess that's getting a bit long in the tooth.
Maybe 2012 will see me get over some of my fears...scary thought!! :)
Old Wolf
2nd January 2012, 03:57 PM
I'm old school - I expect stuff to last. Trouble is the software moves on so fast. Our last computer lasted just long enough so that the microsoft office we had on it would not convert to the new one which means I've ended up with a cheap version for now until I figure out what to do. It looks as though I have to buy both the new version and one of the older intervening versions in order to convert!!!!
I'm assuming that "scary" was your word?
Katmandu40
3rd January 2012, 04:02 AM
Ooops!! I think "scary" was my word. I don't remember...lol. I've given up on expecting things to last in this disposable society. Things are not made to last anymore. Used to be you would get things repaired when they did happen to break...now, throw it out and get a new and better one. It's rather sad. Workers took pride in the things they made...now they have little reason to considering how the corporations treat them (not that there is much made in the USA anymore)...ok, off my soap-box!!!! Don't get me started!!!
Old Wolf
3rd January 2012, 06:25 AM
We all need to "soapbox" occasionally ---a rant is good for you I reckon!
The thing we miss, or society misses, is just how inflationary this is. If you spend 40 coins on something and it lasts 40 years it costs you 1 coin a year. Today we can get the same thing for 20 coins but it will have fallen to bits ten years later which means it's actually cost us twice as much ..... 2 coins a year. It's all a big con driven by the short term view and the chance of bigger bonuses in the short term.
I din't ask if your soap box was big enough for two - I now have this mental picture of us both teetering on the top of a box that is too small!!!
Katmandu40
3rd January 2012, 12:57 PM
Hahahaha....You'll just have to make your mental picture one with a large soap box!!!! Of course if we are both ranting at the same time, we may have trouble getting our point across!! I convinced myself to try to fix up this computer, rather than buy a new one...bought a part for it. Wish I could buy a new keyboard for it (laptop)...doesn't seem to be available...I could attach a keyboard to it, but kind of messes up the point of having a laptop...grrr.
How are YOU this fine day? I woke up to some snow on the ground!!
Old Wolf
3rd January 2012, 04:49 PM
Don't talk about snow - can do without that!!!
Sorry to hear about your computer - it's surprising just how dependent we have become on all this new technology.
I have a solution to the two on one soapbox which could be quite entertaining for the audience. First you speak one line then I speak one line and so on!!
The decorators have been here all day and this is only second time I've been able to get into the office and our STATIC computer (it's O.K. for you folk with laptops -- at least it is when they work!!) :-)
Time for my tea now so it's 'bye from him..................
Katmandu40
4th January 2012, 03:35 AM
The funny thing is...my laptop is static!!! I don't take it anywhere...I did when I first got it, but now it lives in my room on the 3rd floor!!!
I like your soap box idea...as long as we are "on the same page" with what we are talking about! Hmmm...which "w" should I use??? I have quite a few to choose from.
We have been having a few cat fights tonight....(sigh) They are reestablishing the pecking order I suspect...now we have to become "top cat" so to speak....grrrr....or more like...meow.
Old Wolf
4th January 2012, 06:00 AM
It's no good -- you'll have to show them that you are Top Kat! :-)
I think it could be even more fun if we weren't on the "same page" -- we could have a "debate on a date box" -- that should draw the crowds.
What's that you say? - your laptop is static. I think that is the real problem - it has an inferiority complex. You should get it some wheels, nice chrome ones, then it could feel proud to be out and about!!
Katmandu40
4th January 2012, 12:38 PM
My laptop takes after me!!! It goes where I go...no where...hehehe. I guess I could take it out of it's room now and again so it can look around a bit. Inferiority complex...I wonder if THAT is what that blinking red light means?! Hmmm...As for the date box, we would draw a crowd alright...and they would drag us off to the loony bin...you know they would!!!
Old Wolf
4th January 2012, 05:49 PM
Nah, we would just show them that we were on a date (box) and they would think we were normal mad!!
Red light !! that's not a red light that's it blushing. It's not used to meeting people.
Decorators are finished and gone. It's looking very good I'm relieved to say. I'm not used to paying someone else to decorate -- it's weird!!
I'm off for my tea now..see you tomorrow......................
Katmandu40
5th January 2012, 03:27 AM
I'll just have to take your word for that I guess! Glad the decorators did a good job...they haven't started work on our kitchen yet. Maybe next week....maybe not, my mother is going to call them tomorrow. I see my doc. tomorrow so it will be a busy day for me....may catch you tomorrow before I leave!
Old Wolf
5th January 2012, 06:23 AM
If you've got a long drive today I hope that snow has all gone?
I have to try and clear the air that's blocking two radiators and stopping them heating up. I had hoped it would clear itself but it appears not! Normal "bleading" hasn't worked which means I have to try and drain some water from the system and see if that will shift the air with it! Wish me luck.
Have a good and safe trip and an eventful session - talk later..................
Katmandu40
5th January 2012, 12:12 PM
The snow is long gone...just a dusting.
Oh no...I didn't realize those two radiators were still not working!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. We woke up to no heat and it was damn cold last night!!! Simple fix, but still...nothing but trouble with this fairly new furnace....grrrr.
Good luck and I'll catch you later as well....
Old Wolf
5th January 2012, 03:57 PM
Well...............got them working but now they've stopped again!! It's a question of balancing I think (hope) -- these two have always been slow to heat but they get there in the end. They're on the same line as the bathroom and that grabs all the hot water so we have to restrict that a little on it's valves in order that these other two get some!!!
By the time you get this you'll be back from your session -- agood one I hope?
Talk again tomorrow...................
Katmandu40
6th January 2012, 01:57 AM
Oh dear...I hope you get it balanced! We have an old house and some rooms get more heat than others too, so I know what you mean.
I don't know what my word is!!! I don't remember what letter I left you with either!! I guess that gives me the right to just pick a word for you...hahaha.
The session went very fast so I guess it was good, but it was a bit hard too. Now, what word should I pick?????
Old Wolf
6th January 2012, 07:13 AM
Oooops, done it again!
If you sit and reflect do you feel better about yourself now compared to, say, two years ago? I guess what I'm asking is how do you feel therapy helps you (if it does)?
I think, fingers crossed, that I have got them working now - the radiators that is! There was a third one that we don't often have on unless the weather is really severe that wasn't working but that turned out to be a thermostatic valve stuck shut!
I have to go and get my ears tested this morning to see if I suffer from industrial hearing damage...........................
Katmandu40
6th January 2012, 03:08 PM
I think, over-all, compared to 2 years ago I'm doing better. I've slipped back a bit in some areas (I think I've become more anxious about some things)....better about myself?? That's a tough call....my first response is "yes", but if I think about it too much I'm not sure, so I'll go with my first response. Talk about a long winded answer!!!
I'm trying to learn to not look at everything with such a negative eye....not easy to change.
Glad to hear about the radiators!! Sorry to hear about the possible hearing damage!! Let me know how the test goes.
I have to get a new keyboard for my laptop...broke my "n" key...grrr. So I'll be slow responding.........
.................................................. .................................................. .................
To those viewing the conversation...it's NOT private...join in!!!! :) Take the last letter of the bold word and use it as the first letter of a word in your conversation!
Old Wolf
7th January 2012, 12:13 AM
You've just done exactly what I was about to do i.e. talk to the onlookers. Every time I come on here I see there are sometimes as many as 12 others "viewing". So to you onlookers -- don't be shy, join in the fun!
Don't worry, my hearing is O.K. for my age they tell me!
I think your take on where you are is good - you've every right to feel good about yourself --you're O.K. Change is never easy, it nearly always involves stepping outside of your "comfort zone" even if your present comfort zone isn't at all comfortable. It takes courage and lets face it you have to be brave to talk to me!!
Oh! and sorry about the "n" key - naughty, nasty, needy, niggly little "n" key....................... ;-)
Katmandu40
7th January 2012, 01:48 AM
I wish they would join in...it would be fun! I was afraid they might be feeling like they were intruding...YOU AREN'T!!!!!
I'm glad to hear your ears are ok. I'm going to have to break down and get my eyes checked again...think I need new glasses...soon.
Talking to you is easy...especially since it's not face to face!
The keyboard was shipped today...so I should get it pretty soon!
Old Wolf
7th January 2012, 08:56 AM
Like you my eyes are soon going to need a check up - especially for my driving glasses.
Wooho, I am faceless! :-) No, I know what you mean. Conversing like this allows the real me to talk with the real you without interference from our physical selves.
Delivery speeds on internet ordering are getting rather impressive I find.
I think my wifes Kindle has just arrived so I am off for a nose ......................... talk later ..........
Katmandu40
7th January 2012, 02:14 PM
Well...not completely faceless! In my mind...you look like an "old wolf" :) and I love animals so that is a good thing (actually you don't....you look like an older, country gentleman...british, of course)!!! :taunt:
I, also, am impressed with how fast things are delivered from internet ordering...it's amazing!....have fun with your wife's Kindle!!!
Old Wolf
7th January 2012, 11:05 PM
We now each have a Kindle - both on the same account which means we can "lend" each other our books! I have just finished rereading the Steig Larson "Millenium" books - I love 'em.
How is your kitchen coming along? It must be underway by now I suppose?
I don't think those other people are viewing us at all, I think they are going straight into the games section..................unsociable lot.......................
Katmandu40
8th January 2012, 02:08 AM
The kitchen isn't being worked on as of yet...have to call to find out when they are going to start. Was to be the 1st or 2nd week in Jan. This group does great work, but are not the best at starting when scheduled....once they start, they are fine.
You may be right about the other people...(sigh), well, I do enjoy your company anyway...I might get jealous if I had to share you...hahaha :) [ of course I'm just joking you know]
Old Wolf
8th January 2012, 07:52 AM
Yea, just think, If someone else kept slotting in between us we may never speak again!!
If your kitchen crew are good at what they do then it's got to be worth waiting for I guess.
The sun is shining here today. I really ought to get on and catch up outside but I have to put the handles and catches back on all the doors (I took them off for the decorators) and the book cases back on the wall. After this the time will have to be shared between the work outside and the remaining inside work. I shall be glad when it's all done. . . . mind you I'll probably be bored then . . . . there's no pleasing some people ..........................
Katmandu40
8th January 2012, 03:00 PM
That would be awful!!! I like talking to you. My mother's back has been bothering her so I had to run a lot of errands by myself yesterday...that was hard for me at first. Not used to doing that...too much of a recluse, but I think it was good for me!
You will have to come up with more projects to do!!! We can't have you getting bored!! I'm sure you will find something needing to be done!
Old Wolf
8th January 2012, 03:48 PM
It should have been good for you, in fact it is just what you need really. Not having a choice helps because it's too easy to choose not to go out if you don't need to!! Is there any chance that you could repeat it each day without needing a reason? That would be really good while you still have the memory of having done it without any real problem.
I don't think there's much chance of me ever having nothing to do. I still have plenty to finish off now - in fact I have a job to do in the lower hallway which has to be completed before the carpet can be laid - yup, no real chance of having nothing to do.
I have to give my Mum a call now - I feel a bit bad as I haven't called her for three days - she'll be wondering what's happened!! .......
Katmandu40
9th January 2012, 01:44 PM
I can't do that...I would put my phychiatrist out of business!!!! ;) I need a reason to go out I think...I don't know. I'll have to think about it.
I figured you would have plenty to keep you busy...or at least find things to keep you busy!!
How is your Mum? Is she still doing poorly? I hope you find her doing better.
Had router problems again as usual....(sigh) I will eventually get around to having that taken care of!
Old Wolf
9th January 2012, 02:26 PM
I'm sure your psychiatrist would be well pleased if you progressed to the point where you no longer needed her................I know I would be.................
Mum is basically bedridden at the moment but while she is dreaming of being well enough to move about independently at some future date I'm afraid the reality is she will likely never do that again. It's all really sad................. :-(
I'm keeping my fingers crossed ...... I've never had any problems with the router. Computers -- plenty of problems. It's no good, you will just have to GO OUT and get another one!!! :-)
Katmandu40
10th January 2012, 02:55 PM
I'm really sorry about your Mum. That's hard to deal with I'm sure...it is sad.
My doc could retire finally, if I no longer needed her!! But she loves to work (like you) so I'll just have to keep her busy :) . I have to fix my laptop before I can get a router since that is the computer that uses the wireless part of it and is having the problems. I should have my new keyboard tomorrow.
I just ordered a Kindle...(sigh). It was kind of an impulse buy, but maybe it will help me to get back into reading again. If it doesn't, I'll give it to my mother.
Old Wolf
10th January 2012, 03:51 PM
I thought you were going to say "if it doesn't I'll blame you!" :-) Have you read Steig Larsons "Millenium" trilogy? It has some odd chracters in it but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read it first in paper form and have just finished it again on the "Kindle"!!
If it's a laptop how can you get a new keyboard for it? Aren't they all in one?
Got the bill for the plumbing today...... now that's what I call frightening!!!........
Katmandu40
11th January 2012, 02:13 AM
I guess my word is "were". I have not read that and will have to look into it. The laptop's keyboard comes out and can be replaced...not too difficult to do, but can be hard to get the parts. I found a place that has them and every other Dell part I might need!
Plumber's do very well here too...looks like kitchen work will begin next week for sure(?).
Old Wolf
11th January 2012, 06:32 AM
Sorry again..........
Are you excited about the new kitchen or is it just another thing to have to put up with?
I'm in a hurry this morning as I'm up about an hour later than planned and have to get out as it's my busy day today! Enjoy your day...........
Katmandu40
11th January 2012, 01:22 PM
No problem....
I'll be excited about the kitchen when it's finished!! I'm not looking forward to the hassles of it. Hope you have a really good day yourself!
Old Wolf
11th January 2012, 01:50 PM
Hi there. I am (having a good day) It's all blue skies and bright sunshine here at the moment. They say it's going to get a lot colder at the weekend though. Just so long as it doesn't become a prolonged period of cold and SNOWY weather it won't be too bad. We've still got Geraniums flowering here which is more like the weather we were having about 4- 5 years ago! I'm going to give my Mum a 'phone call now - see if she's awake! ..............
Katmandu40
12th January 2012, 02:45 AM
Glad you had a good day. We had rain this afternoon and this evening...tomorrow too. I now have a new (refurbished) keyboard....in other words, the "n" key now works!!!! And I got some technical support for the router and we shall see if that has taken care of the problem!! I certainly hope so!
Good luck with the phone call to your Mum...I know it's hard.
Tomorrow is shrink day, so I'll be busy....hope to catch you in the morning before I leave.
Old Wolf
12th January 2012, 07:08 AM
I spoke with Mum in the end. She's very frustrated because she struggles to use her 'phone and the TV remote.
Fingers crossed for your computer/router - they're like cars, brilliant while they work!!
Soooo, are you going to warn your "shrink" that you intend to make her redundent this year? :-)
It's gone back to being grey this morning. Forecast is for possible rain today , coming colder and frosty tomorrow but, hopefully, NO snow.
I don't know ..... look at that ....all those letters and no "k"......oh yes there's one ........
Katmandu40
12th January 2012, 12:27 PM
So far, so good with the router...but it's only been one day. My poor shrink...no, I must keep her working in this economy!! I'll sacrifice myself for her good ;)
It's fairly warm here, but due to get cold starting tomorrow (I think). Raining today...could be worse I suppose.
Glad you got to talk to your Mum! Catch you later......
Old Wolf
13th January 2012, 05:41 AM
My memory gets worse. I was half way through doing my replies when I was called away for something - I must have totally forgotten that I hadn't finished - sorry!! Definately colder this morning. However it is supposed to stay dry so I will try to get some of the garden work done today I think.
What have you got planned for today? How did your session go yesterday?
Katmandu40
13th January 2012, 11:18 AM
No problem...I wondered what happened though...haha. It's very cold and windy today!!! I think our heat went off again at some point early this morning; the downstairs is chilly and the radiators are cold. Today is a busy day with a lot of errands to run and a dryer vent to replace (I can be handy sometimes). I got my Kindle yesterday and I have to say...I LOVE IT!!!!! I couldn't put it down!! Maybe it will get me reading again! The session went well (and fast)...talking about blocks to my getting better and how I can use Fairy as a positive influence...whispering encouragment in my ear going against the negative tapes. Talked about my anxieties and what seems to trigger them....it was all work!! Good luck with the garden work today!!!
Old Wolf
13th January 2012, 12:30 PM
I'm really pleased you had a good, productive session.
Yeah!, a Kindle convert!! What are you going to read first?
Is the heating thing because the timer is set wrong or because there is something wrong with the boiler? How did your handy girl work go?
I've got some of the garden stuff done -- still a load more needs doing. It's quite cold today (frost this morning!) but it's nice and sunny which helps. I am going to have a bite to eat now and then relax -- we have friends coming for a meal this evening
Katmandu40
14th January 2012, 03:40 AM
I know this was kind of strange to do, but I bought the kindle version of the book I was having trouble reading (about Bonnie and Clyde) and I've been a good deal of the day!! I hope this continues. I also downloaded a couple of free books (2 Dickens books and a new one on special)....I could get used to this I think!
I got the errands finished and replaced the dryer vent...so did my "handy" girl work. Sounds like you got done what you wanted to as well!
The books you were talking about (too lazy to go back and look) the millenium trilogy....were you talking about "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" etc.?
Old Wolf
14th January 2012, 07:37 AM
Yes. There are three of them - "The girl ... with the Dragon Tattoo", ... who played with fire" and ... who kicked the hornets Nest". Like you the ones I'm reading now on Kindle I've already read once in paper form but we borrowed them before and so we have now bought them as Kindle books (Twighlight trilogy). On most books there is a really worthwhile saving and, like DVD's, the older the book the cheaper it becomes.
It looks very cold out this morning - there is a very strong frost over everything. I was going out to do some more tidying up but now I don't feel so keen. I'll see what it's like later. It's definately an age thing - in years past I would spend all day out in the coldest or wettest or windyest of weather and quite enjoy it ---- when I was young and foolish. :-)
We had a very pleasant evening with our friends yesterday - a bottle of wine, simple food and good conversation -- always a winner!
Katmandu40
14th January 2012, 12:18 PM
I'm glad you had a good time last evening with friends...sounds nice! I can even picture it :-) I can't picture you ever being foolish...haha.
My mother read those books and we saw the movies...I was thinking of getting them for my kindle.
Maybe you should take the day off!!! Naw...not OW!!! :taunt:
Old Wolf
14th January 2012, 12:50 PM
I have actually done nothing other than read this morning. I shall probably do more of the same this afternoon although I have to nip down the supermarket (about 4-5 minutes walk) at some time to get some bits that were out of stock when we did the main shop!!
Foolish! Picture this ... Two years ago I skipped down the promenade at the sea side. There was a hopscotch pattern in the pavers and me and two grand kids did the one foot, two foot, hop skip and jump down it. My daughter told me off saying it was bad enough having to keep an eye on her two kids without having to watch out for what her father was up to as well!! :-)
Katmandu40
15th January 2012, 03:30 AM
Cute story...I think your daughter was just jealous!!! I did a lot of reading today as well and had a nap. You would never know I had a nap....I'm "knackered"!!! Don't know why I'm so tired tonight. I didn't do anything taxing today. Not much else to say really so I'll say good night and see ya tomorrow morning!
Old Wolf
15th January 2012, 06:23 AM
I sometimes find it's when I do nothing all day that I end up the most tired! I have at least one nap most days - generally after I've had a meal. I was told that the stomachs need for oxygen to digest the food after eating means there is little left to serve the brain which is why you feel tired!!!
I think I had better try and get something done today - sitting about reading is, perhaps, not the best way to loose the Xmas weight gain!!
Katmandu40
15th January 2012, 12:18 PM
I think I was born tired...haha. I'm not sure what's scheduled for today...probably the supermarket (yuck). I have to do kitty litter boxes tonight (yuck). Maybe I should stay in bed!! "Downton Abbey" is on the TV tonight!!! That I like!!
Well, whatever you decide to do today...have fun doing it!!!
Old Wolf
15th January 2012, 04:34 PM
I love "Downton Abbey" as well. I got a few of the lesser jobs done this morning but have mainly read and dozed this afternoon. It sounds like you are having a "yucky" day today. The pleasure in yucky jobs comes after they are done!
I'm just about to give my Mum a call before I go down for tea. I hope your day isn't too yucky? ................
Katmandu40
16th January 2012, 03:35 AM
Oh, I guess it wasn't too bad. I still have litter boxes to do though. Sounds like you had a fairly pleasent day...I did some reading and dozing as well! Looks like we will go to supermarket tomorrow instead of today...not a favorite chore so easy to put off. Well, off to do cat boxes....(yuck).
Old Wolf
16th January 2012, 06:33 AM
Pets are a bit like babies --- you have to pay for what goes in and you have to pay for what comes out! :-)
Not sure what I shall do today. I still have to nip to supermarket to see if I can get the bits that were our of stock - we're running out!! I'm also supposed to be getting a blood test done sometime so I'll have to 'phone up to arrange that. I've got lot's to do, just don't feel like doing it!! These short cold days are meant for hibernating really!!
Katmandu40
16th January 2012, 12:14 PM
I never thought of pets like that, but you have a point. I just thought of them as poop and pee factories (sounds loving, doesn't it?)! Oh well...love them (most of the time) anyway.
You are starting to sound like me Old Wolf!!! I just don't feel like doing things either!!! But look where that has gotten me!....sooo...go on, get it over with! Then you can rest easy. At least do the marketing (food is much too important ;) )!
Old Wolf
16th January 2012, 12:47 PM
Blood test arranged and just about to go to town for the bits. However I haven't done anything else other than read some more of my book!!
It's lovely sunshine here but rather cool - good to walk to town in anyway.
Part of what I have to do will involve removing a radiator for a few days and I'm not too happy doing that while it's so cold --- or at least that's my excuse!!
What are you up to.....................
Katmandu40
17th January 2012, 03:16 AM
I would wait till you get a warm spell to remove the radiator!! It's a good excuse!
Me? Well, we got to the supermarket today and I did some reading and dozing and then I dozed some more! Now, after I finish with my computer stuff, I'll read a bit more I think. See you tomorrow......
Old Wolf
17th January 2012, 06:09 AM
It doesn't sound as though Fairy is very busy with you at the moment?
Our supermarket still did not have what I wanted in stock -- it's supposed to be coming in this morning so I will call in again later as I return from the reading group that I'm part of this evening.
We've still got some quite large companies going bust. There's a low cost clothes retailer called Peacocks that has a large shop in the town here, a national chain, that has just announced its' closure/bankruptcy. Makes you wonder where it will all end? Still, not a lot I can do to stop it all!!
I'm off to get some breakfast before going to get blood tests done - the surgery does them between 8-00 and 9-15 so it's an early start!!
Katmandu40
17th January 2012, 12:48 PM
Fairy will have a bigger role to play soon...I just have to get used to listening to her. I'm not used to hearing a positive voice in my ear, so I don't hear her!!!
Our economy is still hurting as well...it's going to take a good long time to recover from this drop. It's amazing how we are all so tied together financially...the world that is.
Have fun at the "vampire's"!!!
Old Wolf
17th January 2012, 06:37 PM
I got it! The item that was out of stock was in --- well the last two were left on the shelf so I had them both. I don't know what they think the'yre playing at, the stocking levels are far too low for the demand.
I'm wondering if, for you at present, the idea of getting "better" isn't a little frightening in itself. The expectations that other people might have can seem daunting in a mind used to not being able to do certain things. Unconsciously this can reinforce the negative idea of our being useless if we're not careful. It can sometimes help, if this is the case, to remember that we retain the right to say "No I'm not" if we are uncomfortable about doing anything -- at least until such time as we do feel comfortable giving it a try.
The "vampires" were quite nice really even though I did have to wait for 3/4 hour!!
Katmandu40
18th January 2012, 03:28 AM
Oh I know the idea of getting "better" scares me...we have been talking about that in my sessions as well. Instead of putting myself down for that (like I used to), I'm trying to understand it and look at it in a more rational manor...not that feelings don't rear their ugly heads from time to time!! I think that is where a lot of my anxiety is coming from actually and why I seem to be stuck.
That's a fairly long wait....I guess a lot of people had to get blood tests today!
Old Wolf
18th January 2012, 05:25 AM
Ah well, you're definitely on the path to getting "better" then. You are allowed to feel good about that you know!! :-) ( Fairy is smiling )
I was number 12 in the queue but one of the "vampires" was late arriving so initially there was only the one at work.
I have to go get an early breakfast as I have an early client today so talk more later..............
Katmandu40
18th January 2012, 12:28 PM
Construction of the new kitchen is to start tomorrow "for sure"....hmm....I won't hold my breath...however, we are getting everything out of the kitchen just in case. We are pretty much prepared I think. (notice I completely bypassed the "allowed to feel good..." stuff). I still don't have a "d"....ahhhhhh....there's one! Hope you have a good day.
Old Wolf
18th January 2012, 02:09 PM
I'll hold my breath for you. Are you looking forward to the finished project?
Yes, I did notice your avoidance of the feel good stuff -- I wonder why that was......... :-)
I feel a bit funny -- like I've got an upset tummy coming on! I hope not as I still have one more client later and I hate having to let my clients down especially at the last moment. Ah well! Have to wait and see.........
How are you - what sort of day are you having??
Katmandu40
19th January 2012, 02:30 AM
It's hard for me to keep the finished project in mind...all I can think about is the noise and the hassle and the anxiety of it all for weeks and weeks!!! The plumber phoned and they will be here bright and early tomorrow to disconnect the sink and the radiator in the kitchen...so it will begin (sigh). We got everything out of the kitchen and pantry today so I guess we are as ready as we will ever be. I guess I'm lucky...I'll be out most of the day tomorrow with my session...my mother will be stuck here, but then it is her project (hear a bit of hostility in there???) ;)
How is your stomach? Did it settle down? Hope so!!!! I was kind of grumpy most of the day...not sure why.
Old Wolf
19th January 2012, 06:24 AM
Perhaps grumpy and hostility go together?
Yes, it resettled by the late afternoon - no idea what caused it (my tummy).
I assume you are having a completely new kitchen. Does that include appliances? Is it on the same floor that you mainly use? If your kitchen fitters are anything like ours they'll be done and gone in under a week!! It could take longer if there is structural work or new electrics involved.
Have a safe journey and a good session today .... talk later.....................
Katmandu40
19th January 2012, 11:38 AM
I'm glad your tummy got better!!
We already have most of the new appliances (out of need), but will be getting a few more...the built-in cupboards will be taken out and a back put on, then they will be put up again...new cabinets and coutertops...an island put in...major changes. Estimates are about 6 weeks for everything to be done with kitchen and pantry. Tell you more later...took some before pics and will take some after pics. What are your plans today??
Old Wolf
19th January 2012, 12:51 PM
Shopping ... :-( I also have to go to the Building Supplies later to organise some materials for the hallway and we had to go back to the "vultures" earlier for my wife to have a blood test - it appears she may have the lesser Diabetes. Will know more when the tests are in!
Otherwise a fairly quiet day - nice and bright without being too cold here. What about you - how was your session and journey?
Katmandu40
20th January 2012, 03:21 AM
Hope you're wrong about the Diabetes...I have that as well. Was told that if I lost weight, I might lose the diabetes as well. Sort of working on that.
The journey seemed longer than usual, but the session went quickly so that means it was productive...we agreed that I need to have that chat with "fairy". I know what I need to do...it's just doing it!!!
Old Wolf
20th January 2012, 08:28 AM
Sooo, what is it that stops you? (Having a chat with fairy). Nail down the obstacles for me, I would like to understand.
We shan't know the test results until later next week - or at least what they really mean. I didn't know there is a possiblity of losing it if weight is also lost? How do you manage yours?
I have to go down the town this morning so I'd better get dressed and have some breakfast! Talk soon........
Katmandu40
20th January 2012, 10:27 AM
I would like to understand too! I think part of me feels silly talking to "fairy"...being too rational and logical I guess, or maybe that's just a cover. There is fear there...fear of moving ahead into unknown territory.
My diabetes is mainly due to obesity(sp) and some family history. It's mild and managed with oral medication (so far). I still sometimes eat things I shouldn't (sugar).
Workmen will be here early today....must get ready....see ya!
Old Wolf
20th January 2012, 12:12 PM
What I find is "talking to fairy" is more like confirmation of what you already know. It's difficult to describe - The answers you get (in my experience) you are not aware of knowing beforehand but in a strange way once you have them it's like you always knew deep down - there's a rightness to them that makes you feel "why couldn't I see that" rather than "why couldn't I know that". You don't have to call her/him/it "Fairy" - you can talk to Bob if you want too, if it feels more comfortable, she/him/it won't mind at all!!
On the fear front, the "talking" has never frightened me though afterwards when I may realise what I need to do the "doing" has on occasions given rise to some anxiety. :-) If it goes right "Fairy", "Bob" or whatever becomes like an old familiar friend - you need never be alone again...............
How's it going with the workmen? I hope you are making them plenty of tea? (or coffee!)
Have to go now - my dinner is ready......................
Katmandu40
21st January 2012, 03:14 AM
I think I understand what you mean about "fairy"....prefer "fairy" to "bob"...hahahaha.
Are you kidding??!!! We have enough trouble making, in our case, coffee for ourselves let alone making coffee for the workmen...they can bring their own damn coffee!!!! And bring us some too!!!! The kitchen is gutted!!! We are now living like we are camping out, but without the fun!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
Old Wolf

Ooops! Someone is NOT happy!! What are you surviving on - sandwiches?? We were fortunate when we did our kitchen. The dining room was not done so we were able to use it both as a workroom and as a substitute kitchen. We couldn't wash up in there but we moved a section of the old kitchen cupboards through there and had an oven/microwave and two electric rings for cooking as well as the kettle of course while we worked on the kitchen. Just as well seeing as it took nearly a year to do it!!!
Katmandu40
21st January 2012, 11:25 AM
Thanks Old Wolf...I really wanted to hear it took nearly a year to do!!! hahahaha. We have "electric rings" but it takes about 20 minutes for a kettle to boil water! We had pizza for dinner last night. We have the dinning room, but it's very crowded in there and no water downstairs (except a toilet). How did you survive it???!!! I guess we will get used to it...(sigh).

Ours was more like a rebuild. We had the ceiling down totally (back to the floor joists!), floor up, walls stripped and a great chimney breast to remove before we could start putting it back together. Plumbing had to be altered, new gas central heating boiler with associated gas work and special flues fitted and completely rewired. Walls plastered, ceiling to put up and plastered, floor tiled over reinforced damp proofing. Then we could start putting in units and things like dishwashers, fridge, freezer, range etc. Just as well we did it then because I wouldn't be up to it now!!! I don't think yours will take quite as long!!
You'll just have to close your eyes and dream of it being done!
Just been trying to organise my cars annual test (MOT). Had forgotten it's Saturday - they've all gone home!! Will have to do it Monday..............
Katmandu40
22nd January 2012, 03:24 AM
We're not having quite that much done...but it will take about 6 weeks they say. I do try to think of the finished product...but it's hard to keep in mind. I guess I'll get used to this living situation pretty soon. It could be worse I suppose.
Don't forget to get your car taken care of on Monday!
Old Wolf
22nd January 2012, 07:42 AM
You could remind me on the day!
What are you going to eat for six weeks? I remember our menu was a little restricted even though my better half can be very inventive!
How are you getting on with your Kindle? I'm finding it rather a distraction - I'd much rather be sitting reading at this time........................
Katmandu40
22nd January 2012, 12:45 PM
I will try to remind you...but I'm not very good at that.
We will be eating mostly microwave food and frozen dinners....of course there's always pizza and chinese. The only place we have to do dishes is in the bath-tub...so we want to use as few dishes as possible!!
I'm reading my next book!! I'm loving it so far! I downloaded a few books (free) that I read when I was a child and I'm looking forward to reading them again......Go READ!!!!
Old Wolf
22nd January 2012, 01:27 PM
I've managed to resist -- I'm working on the lower hall at present -- removing old cladding in preparation for fixing up new!
Talking of books from my youth. I've got hard back copies of all the Arthur Ransome "Swallows and Amazon" books and have read them twice over since getting them two or three years ago - love 'em! One of my favourite all time books is one called "Mister God, this is Anna" by Fynn (sp.?) I haven't looked to see if it is avaliable on Kindle yet - must do that some time.
I'm off to catch a snooze now.................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzz!
Katmandu40
23rd January 2012, 03:13 AM
Ahhh...you've gone back to work on the house. You're Kindle misses you!!!! Don't forget to get your car taken care of!!!! I'm currently reading a biography about Mary Todd Lincoln which is interesting so far. Don't know how much you are familiar with US history, but she was/is not a popular person...was considered insane at one point and sent to an asylum by her son (not a place to be back in the 1800's). See ya tomorrow!
Old Wolf
23rd January 2012, 05:47 AM
This is tomorrow ....................
I'm afraid I don't know a great deal about US history. History in general was/is not my favourite subject. It does seem to be of interest to you though?
I'm out first thing so will have to remember to do the car later.
Yeah, work has restarted. I've got this bit on the hall to do, check the floor boards over while the carpet is up and then the book and CD shelves in the dining room. Then, apart from normal ongoing maintenance jobs, I should be done and able to get back to the garden, building my rail layout, books and touring!!
Katmandu40
23rd January 2012, 11:39 AM
I do find history interesting...I didn't use to so much, but found there was more to it than I was taught in school!! I wasn't always taught the complete truth, especially when it came to US history.
Consider yourself reminded about your car!!!! While you are working on your house...think of me, reading my Kindle!!! :taunt:

23rd January 2012, 12:23 PM
Cheeky! Car is all booked in for 21st February. Don't know what happened there but this entry suddenly entered itself!!!
I have to gather up the rubbish and have a trip to the tip this afternoon - not my most favourite job. It all depends how close to the house I can get with the car. I shall probably have a doze before then mind as I was up at 6 o'clock this morning and am beginning to feel "zonked". Talk again later................................

24th January 2012, 02:47 AM
I never got around to reading my Kindle today...between running errands, taking care of cats and dozing...there just wasn't time!!! Not to mention workmen in and out all day. I'm really tired tonight...errands tomorrow and cat boxes to do....and workmen....ACK!!!!! I need a vacation!!!
Old Wolf
24th January 2012, 07:00 AM
A Kindleless day! That's not good. Where would you go if you had a vacation?
I ended up doing nothing other than read yesterday afternoon as I didn't feel very well - not sure why - am O.K. now.
Perhaps you could go out to do errands and stay out - sit in a bar or cafe and read your Kindle?
My mates coming round for a cuppa and a "putting the world to rights" this morning so I shan't acheive much else until this afternoon.
Katmandu40
24th January 2012, 11:35 AM
hmm..this time of year, not sure where I would go really. Glad you are feeling better...wonder why you didn't feel well.
It would be tempting to stay in a bar and read, but mostly drink...hehe...ah, but then I'd have to drive home again. Sounds like you'll have fun this morning...do you do this every Tuesday?
Old Wolf
24th January 2012, 11:50 AM
Not every but probably most!!
You could always drink soft drinks?? What about a restaurant? Could you get away with sitting with a coffee and reading?
I may get to the tip this afternoon but it will depend what the weather does really. I do need to get on with things - I need it all done so that I can get caught up outside before the spring.............
Katmandu40
25th January 2012, 03:27 AM
Winter just started...there's plenty of time yet!!! Go ahead and read!!! Have some tea with friends!!! I kind of have to stay around here...not fair to leave my mum with all the workmen and keeping animals from escaping. Actually, I think I may actually be getting used to it. I even managed to doze a bit despite all the noise!! Now I'm off to do littler boxes....goody!
Old Wolf
25th January 2012, 05:59 AM
I got to the tip but that's about it. Oh! I did also plant some shrub cuttings!
I also got to have tea and a natter during the morning.
I assume you got your favourite job done - litter boxes? Did you manage to fit in any reading at all? I have a busy client day today including an early start so will away now to get some breakfast..............................
Katmandu40
25th January 2012, 11:55 AM
Good for you!! I assume a "natter" is a good thing (a doze perhaps)? Yes, I got the litter boxes done. I usually manage to get in some reading, but not yesterday...no reading at all!! How disappointing!!! Hopefully, today. Hope you have a productive and good day!
Old Wolf
25th January 2012, 06:15 PM
Sorry. A natter is another word for a chat or relaxed talking to another! ( natter, natter, natter, natter ......)
My busy day has gone well - satisfying. What were you doing yesterday that meant you had no time to read!!? Not like you - well - at least not lately. Did you manage to get back to it today?
I'm being waited for down stairs - it's time for tea. See you soon...........................
Katmandu40
26th January 2012, 03:30 AM
I had a 50/50 chance of getting that right....I got it wrong. Don't be sorry, I like learning British slang!!! We had a lot of errands yesterday and things where just too busy and I was too tired to read that night! I didn't read today either...slept a lot today, don't know why I'm so tired (even slept through all the hammering and sawing going on in the kitchen...much to my mother's amazment. She was jealous). I may try to read a bit tonight.
Old Wolf
26th January 2012, 07:10 AM
Don't know what it is with you youngsters - no staying power. :-)
I think it just illustrates how the mind can shut out sound that is no longer threatening once we have got used to it!
Our TV is broke down again - same problem that was supposed to have been mended last time! We are NOT happy!!! However, it does mean that we read instead ...... and were still reading at 2-00 a.m. !!! I shall be tired later.
I have a doctors appointment later this morning to find out results of blood tests - should be interesting ....................................
Katmandu40
26th January 2012, 12:01 PM
Hahaha....that's right...you oldsters take all the energy from us!!!! :taunt: I've always been good at sleeping! Not the thing you want to tell them at a job interview though!! I think you broke the TV just so you could read all night!!! :-P
Are you expecting something good/bad from the blood tests that it should be interesting??? I hope it's nothing tooooo interesting!! Today is my therapy day, so I'll be busy with that.
Old Wolf
26th January 2012, 12:17 PM
Blood test showed no change so probably means nothing but am to have a scan just to double check things.
You could always be a bed tester, how's that for a job? :-) I'm starting to feel very tired myself -- a hangover from last night no doubt!!
The TV is very annoying especially as the dealer doesn't have a spare to loan us at the present. They can't pick it up until tomorrow either. The trouble is that I can see this being a problem that goes on for weeks. Ah well!
Have a good and safe journey - talk later.........................
Katmandu40
27th January 2012, 03:00 AM
Blood test showed no change in what? Or am I being too nosey...something wrong?? If it's none of my business...just tell me.
I'm getting tired of TV...would loan you ours if I could!! But there are a few shows I would miss. Hmmm...maybe time for a, dare I say it, new TV??? I can hear the grumbling all the way across the pond!!!
Old Wolf
27th January 2012, 06:08 AM
That's the problem - it is new, well 15 months old!
My last regular bloodtest showed an elevated enzyme which could indicate a liver problem. it is only a very low figure but the doc thought it best to get another reading to confirm whether or not it was just a blip. Soooo, second bloodtest which showed exactly the same figure. He thinks it is nothing but as a precaution wants a scan done. What kicked this all off was the fact that I have started getting palpatations (heart murmers). These are also considered to be nothing to worry about at this stage but both things will require watching in the future. Such is life! Basically, I'm wearing out - bits are beginning to fall off!!!
Katmandu40
27th January 2012, 11:12 AM
Hmmm....that IS a new TV. That really sucks!!
Poor Old Wolf...hope there's nothing too serious. You need to find a good body shop for new parts!!!! I have achy bits and pieces so far, but nothing falling off!! Oh, except some weight...lost a few pounds so far without really trying! I still need a "d" word!!!!!! "D" words don't come so easily as others!
Old Wolf
27th January 2012, 12:55 PM
I could do with some weight falling off but it dosn't seem inclined to be that helpful!
I have to go shopping later but before that I'm having a snoozy break -- so there! :-)
How was your session and the journey to and fro?
Right, I'm away now. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day...................
Katmandu40
28th January 2012, 03:40 AM
I love snoozy breaks!!!! My session was ok...still talking about my fears of getting better and how to use fairy. Looking only at the negative is what I'm used to...looking for positives is alien and hard to do, but I am working on it....worked on it today as a matter of fact! So I actually had a pretty good day....catch you tomorrow! Ooops..no "e"....everything went well today.
Old Wolf
28th January 2012, 06:53 AM
Good to hear you had a good day - you deserve many more.
I sometimes think the whole human concept is flawed. This idea of trying to combine the spiritual with a human animal vehicle/body causes a lot of problems. Our animal side is programmed to automatically watch out for things that are a threat or may hurt as an automatic defence. Really positive important stuff designed for the animals survival. The trouble is, when it comes to our thinking mind that is all we end up looking for, stuff that threatens to hurt us. In the process, if we are feeling low or are used to being hurt that is all we look for, we ignore all the good stuff that happens and focus only on the bad. So at the very time we could use a lift all we can see is more bad stuff!!!
So, time maybe to be brave and turn off the defence system for a while and look out for the good stuff that is always there if we would but allow ourselves to see it!
OOh dear, I seem to have got up in a "preachy" mood this morning - I'll go before I start making prophesies...............................
Katmandu40
28th January 2012, 12:19 PM
Goodness!!! You are talkative today! There is one animal trait that I truely envy and that is the ability to live "in the moment". True, animals are shaped by their past...but in most cases there is no past and no future, there is only "now". I think that is how some abused animals are able to trust again and be loving (not all, granted). Don't you think that would be nice though..."live in the moment"?
Old Wolf
28th January 2012, 10:12 PM
Hmmm, I wonder if the main difference isn't our having conscious awareness. I'm not saying that it's not possible that some animals may also have this - in fact there seems to be a growing body of "evidence" that suggests this but I do think this makes it virtually impossible for us to be present "in the moment" all the time. Part of this awareness may be memory and we can't truly escape our past experiences because of this. However, I do think there are some memories that get stored as almost pure emotion and as such have not been rationalised as they happened. I.e. a parent beats a child and tells them they are useless, a waste of space, and the child believes this - it must be true, why else would the parent say this. The child stores this memory as fact and as a feeling of being useless and a waste of space and it is that emotive, feeling memory that continues to act through the child's unconscious into adulthood. The adult cannot rationalise this memory or lift it into conscious thought because it doesn't really understand where it originates. I think that all unconscious influence arises from purely emotive memory and influences how we interpret what is happening in the conscious world......... I really do have verbal diarrhea don't I...........I'm shutting up now....................
Katmandu40
29th January 2012, 03:24 AM
HAHAHAHA....Goodness!!!! Remind me to never get into a debate with you!!! I think most animals can be conditioned to feel certain ways....hence timid or agressive behaviors brought out of once "normal" animals....they, too, remember. I guess I'm speaking more about a state of mind....we tend to worry about the future in particular (what will happen, what have I accomplished). I don't think animals do this...they worry about today or even the next few minutes. Like my cats...."Is she going to pet us soon or play on that stupid lighted box on her desk all night?"
Old Wolf
29th January 2012, 07:23 AM
Soooo, perhaps this is because we have conscious memory recall PLUS an ability to "analyse" it that animals, by and large, do not have. The future is always an unknown quantity. We find the unknown frightening so we draw on past experience to form a rational future in our consciousness to give us some idea of what is to come. So it can be seen that conscious thought can be used to rationalise even the unknown whereas unconscious thought, emotive thought, remains irrational. Someone who builds their model of the future (or a future event) on unconscious, emotive memory often finds the worries or fears that they feel are totally irrational but still very real - they can't make sense of them which in itself can be frightening. So we can see that past experience influences our perception of the present and both these contribute to our expectation of what the future holds ---- experience -> perception -> expectation.
I'm off again!!
I can't see a word highlit so will assume you would have picked "state"...................
Katmandu40
29th January 2012, 12:49 PM
"State" was the word...not sure what happened. Sooo, how's the weather your way?? hehehe. I understand what you are saying and do not disagree with it...just simplifying it I guess. It's hard to tell via the internet, but you sound a bit grumpy today....are you? Maybe you need to read your kindle today and just take it easy!!!
Old Wolf
29th January 2012, 03:01 PM
I don't know -- am I grumpy? Not sure really, wasn't aware of it but I can be at times I guess.........
I "hear" you've had enough of the heavy stuff - can't blame you.
It's cold and damp today - has been all day. The forecast is for it to get much colder as the week goes on, brrrrrrr.
We just got back from the cinema. Went to see "Hugo". Not bad but wouldn't rave about it.
I have a little office work to catch up on and then I might fit some Kindling in..................
Katmandu40
30th January 2012, 03:20 AM
Everyone can be grumpy at times!! Even me!! I'm sure you find THAT hard to believe...haha. So, you weren't thrilled with "Hugo"...got rave reviews here. I guess I'll wait for it to come out on DVD...not that I go to the movies much anyway...too expensive!! Would rather be comfortable at home and watch it on the "boob tube".
I finally did some laundry today and a bit of reading.
Old Wolf
30th January 2012, 05:43 AM
Hugo was O.K. - well made etc. - just didn't quite make it into the brilliant category for me. It's getting more expensive here it seems (going to cinema). With the drinks and icecreams it cost the two of us £14.
"Boob tube" Ha ha ha. A "boob tube" here is just that, originally a knitted, stretch type tube of material that girls wear to cover their bosums - a band about 9" wide around the upper torso!! The only similarity with a TV is that it holds the gaze of men!!
I have an early client today so have to leave in about 1 1/2 hours - so I'm off to get some breakfast now. Talk later......................
Katmandu40
30th January 2012, 11:37 AM
Hahaha....Well I'm glad I started you off with a laugh today! BTW...we call those "tube tops"...not as original. I want to see "War Horse" although it looks like it may be a tear jerker. Busy day today for me too...off I go.
Old Wolf
30th January 2012, 12:28 PM
All these busy days get in the way of being lazy!!
My wife went to see War Horse and thoroughly enjoyed it - can't remember what I was doing.......
Just done my past two weeks accounts - bit naughty really as I normally make sure they are done each week!
I'm now about to be lazy and am going for a snooze ...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ
Katmandu40
31st January 2012, 02:53 AM
I know....lazy is very important to me!!! I have to get my books up-to-date as well, eventually. Bills will be coming due soon...as a new month approaches. How are your projects coming along?? They should be about finished by now..yes?? hehehehe.
I'm off to bed in a bit...have to clean out cat boxes yet again!!!
Old Wolf
31st January 2012, 07:08 AM
You may well laugh..........There is the hall landing stairs project still waiting for my attention. I have now got the cladding for the lower hall (on the walls up to the dado rail hight) but have yet to really begin. One problem is that these are 8' x 4' boards and the only place I have to cut them up now is outside on the lawn so I have to have reasonable weather!! After this there are the shelves to construct for the dining room as well. The carpet supplier is being very good and is still holding the carpets for the hall etc. So when I've done they will have to come and do that.
I have to go out this morning and we have guests coming for a meal tonight -- it's our friend's birthday today!! So not a lot else will be done today...............
Katmandu40
31st January 2012, 11:47 AM
Poor Old Wolf...I won't make fun of your projects anymore!! I'm actually jealous that you are able to do all this yourself; jealous and impressed. Your house will be a real "show case" when you're all finished with it!!! How long have you been working on your house? If it's like mose houses I expect your answer to be, "since we moved in"...haha. Have fun with your friends tonight!!!
Old Wolf
31st January 2012, 12:56 PM
Thank you, I'm sure we will.
Well.....we've had it for nearly 25 years. The first 9 years we only came to it at weekends as we still lived and worked further south. It's taken that long to get round it all. It wasn't in a terrible state or anything but we wanted to be thorough and do as good a job as we knew how. This is the first home with any sense of permanence as in all the previous houses we were agricultural tenants - they were "tied" to the job. This is the first place we can truly call our own - the first home we have owned! So.... very special in many ways........................
What are you up to today -- are you making any headway on the "exercises" your therapist suggested?
Katmandu40
1st February 2012, 03:18 AM
Yes....that does make it (home) special. You have been putting a lot of love into that house and that's no joke. But I have to pick on you once in a while...just to keep you on your toes! I don't think I really did too much today really...slept a lot I guess (despite the workmen). I have some errands to run tomorrow though.
I actually DID make a bit of headway...not a lot, but some. I took the dog for a walk on Friday and I went a bit farther than I probably should have gone (got very winded)...instead of putting myself down, I tried very hard to talk to fairy and look at the positives of what I did. The negative feelings where still there, but I tried to block them out and go with the positives...not used to doing that at all!! My plan is to try it again this week.
Old Wolf
1st February 2012, 06:27 AM
Hey, that is good. After a few times of that see if you can talk yourself into walking the dog twice a week.
You can pick on me all you want - I need someone to keep me on my toes sometimes.
How are the workmen getting on?
Must dash now as I have an early start and have overslept by an hour!!
Talk later............................
Katmandu40
1st February 2012, 11:25 AM
oh dear...you must have been really knackered and needed the sleep!!! Yes, my plan is to increase the walks as I can both in length and number. The workmen have slowed down a bit (the carpenter had his wisdom teeth taken out last Friday). I hope they pick up the pace today!!
Have a good day today!!
Old Wolf
1st February 2012, 12:31 PM
We had a good evening yesterday, friends round for a meal etc. but it meant we were later to bed than normal. There was a time many years ago when we would have parties that would start at about 7-00p.m. on the Friday and not stop until about the same time on Sunday. Any sleep ocurred at odd times when we would just crash on the sofa for an hour or so. Come Monday morning back to work as normal!!!! Can't do that now!!!
It's good to hear of your plans for walking the dog. Are you intending to get out today?
I'm now going to get an after dinner snooze in before I have to go out again for my last client ...............................
Katmandu40
2nd February 2012, 03:10 AM
I had a lot of errands to run today and the only dog walking I did was when I took her to the groomer's for a bath. I'll try for Friday, but that's going to be a busy day too...don't know if I'll manage it then (sigh). I know. I made a start and should try to keep the momentum going....I will try Fri. even if it's just up the block and back or maybe even tomorrow after my session...will see how tired I am.
Old Wolf
2nd February 2012, 06:35 AM
I should give it a go if you anyway can. Are you keeping a Diary of what you do? It can be useful to have a record to reflect on later just to see how far you have come and it can help on a day to day basis to see in black and white how much you acheived the previous day.
I have some office work to do today - letters and A/C's etc plus, if I get time, a walk into town to the bank. Pretty much a normal day really.
Talk to you later.....................
Katmandu40
2nd February 2012, 11:53 AM
That's not a bad idea...I'll have to give that some thought; although I don't do much yet on a day to day basis.....yet. Not much really to say today so I'll let things stop here instead of babbling on....Off to my session soon. See ya soon!
Old Wolf
2nd February 2012, 05:43 PM
Rushing to get down for my tea but couldn't go without saying Hi. Have just been shopping and unloaded and packed it all away!
Hope your session was a good one. Must go now.................................
Katmandu40
3rd February 2012, 03:25 AM
That's about the shortest message you've ever sent!!! Session was ok...talked about some stuff that should have brought up a lot of feelings, but didn't...hmmm. Wonder what that's about (look...2 "a" words)! Tired tonight, so I'll also be short (oops another...yet another...nevermind). Catch you later.
Old Wolf
3rd February 2012, 06:57 AM
It could be that, without realising it, you've already resolved a lot of it. If it was very early stuff that you talked about I think it can be possible to come to terms with and resolve such things but still be left with the problems that they gave rise to because those secondary things have become entrenched with time. If this is the case it should make it easier (NOT easy, but easier) to tackle these secondary issues -- such as anxiety in public etc.?? The early stuff destroys self belief which leads to insecurity of self and associated anxiety. This can manifest itself as anxiety in public places etc. Although the early stuff may be the foundation for the anxiety the anxiety can become so entrenched by repeated experience that the "foundation" can be removed from under it, as it were, without causing the collapse of the more recent layers of anxiety. However, it should then be easier to dismantle these later learned layers e.g. by nuturing the new shoots of self confidence and then doing things like simply re-engaging with society and the public at large!!! Every time you go out you will be "blacking the monsters eye" as it were and making it back off a bit more until one day you realise it's no longer there!!!
Here endeth the lecture ....... you are still awake aren't you??
It's thick white frost with a sprinkling of snow here this morning which is a pain because I had hoped to cut up some of the boards I need on the lawn this morning..............
You shouldn't have said that about shortest message, look at this essay...................
Katmandu40
3rd February 2012, 09:50 AM
WOW!! You definitely made up for the last message!! :taunt: I'm awake still...and believe that what you say makes sense. It's the first few steps that are the hardest. This is where "fairy" helps.
It's been very mild here this winter...I usually enjoy snow, but have to admit I don't mind this warmer weather.
Old Wolf
3rd February 2012, 10:07 PM
I do get carried away sometimes................ Let me know how you get on with the walking.
I managed to get the boards cut down to size today though it took a while having waited for the bulk of the frost to melt first.
They're forecasting 2" - 4" of snow tomorrow evening/night and temperatures down to -10 tonight in some parts .. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Don't like it too cold - the pond is already solid ice over the top. Hurry up spring I say............................
Katmandu40
4th February 2012, 03:30 AM
I did manage to take Lady for a walk today even though I was very tired...was up at 5am (don't ask)....It was a real struggle to get myself moving, but those sad, brown eyes of hers...well, she's been so bored I had to cave in and just do it!!! Had very little negative self talk..."fairy" and I focused on the positives.
You are getting our usual Feb. weather!!! Here it's been spring like!! Very mild winter so far (knock wood)!!
Old Wolf

The weather differences are more pronounced at the present time it seems. We were trapped in the deep freeze last winter for weeks. There is a "line" between the tropical air and the polar air that is, I believe, influenced by solar winds. This line normally follows a gentle wave pattern but for the last two years at least has been much more erratic. At the moment the most northerly warm air is just above Scotland but still sitting out to the west. To the east the cold air is as far south as Turkey, Spain and the Mediterranean!!
Are you planning on taking another walk today and if so how far do you envisage going? I am asking -- why up at 5a.m.?
I have some more shopping to do today for bits for the lower hall and a couple of letters to write as well .......................

I take a long acting stimulant on Thurs. so I don't fall asleep driving to my session...it tends to mess up my sleep Thurs. nights (I call it the "night of 1000 hours") so I'm usually up pretty early the next day. I may try to cut back the amount I take and see if that helps. I don't take enough to get high or jittery...just so I don't get sleepy.
I don't plan on taking Lady for a walk today...some errands to run and shopping to do. Plus...I'm starting slow. If I manage 1 day a week for a bit, then I'll move up to 2, etc.
You still write letters??? I thought everyone used email these days!

I do still write and like to recieve letters although these I have to do are to a client and their GP.
I think it might be an idea to see if you can't cut back on the stimulant a bit. Does your therapist know you are under the "influence" during your session?
What is it about walking Lady that makes it more of a challenge than shopping and errands? I've done my shopping -- at least I've got the stuff that was in stock and a sample of some moulding which now I've checked it out I will order on Monday.
I'm going to give my Mum a 'phone call now, talk soon............................

She knows I'm under the influence...she gave me the Rx for them. I've had near accidents from nodding off while driving there and back....scary!!! I only use it for long drives...not for recreation. If I did, I wouldn't be so fat!!! :)
I think the challenge is that walking Lady is really something that's supposed to be good for me (I'm actually trying to look at it as good for Lady)..."exercise" is a dirty word!!! Plus I do errands with my mum (usually) although, with the workmen around, I've been doing some errands on my own...which has been good for me as well.
Sounds like your project is moving along. Hope the phone call goes well!!

5th February 2012, 06:30 AM
Ah! So, does "supposed" mean it's something you are told to do as against something you choose to do? Do you unconsciously rebel against doing what you are told or made to feel you should do?
Do you feel that it's an acheivment to do those errands on your own? I generally go town shopping alone. I like to know what I want and just go get it - I don't like dawdling around "window shopping"!
Phone call was O.K. Some days Mum isn't as low as others and yesterday was a good day.
I didn't like to hear about you having "near accidents" - I guess "under the influence" is better than dead!!
We've had about 3"-4" of snow overnight although it looks a bit like it has thawed a little as well at some point ... still cold though........................
Katmandu40
5th February 2012, 12:02 PM
I do tend to "push" back when "pushed". Which doesn't make it easy for my shrink or me for that matter...or "dig my heels in" as my doc says. As for the errands...I don't know that I look at it as an acheivment (even though it is)...Not sure what I feel except that I feel good about it after feeling some anxiety at the beginning.
I'm glad your Mum was having a good day yesterday...may there be more of those!!
At least you aren't getting it as bad as some places in Europe!!! I can't believe some of the reports of cold and snow there!
Old Wolf
5th February 2012, 03:28 PM
I wonder if some of your "dig my heels in" stuff is also to do with you expecting to be told what to do i.e. your first response is to interpret what some one says to you as "an order". If it has anything to do with that it could be a help to recognise that whatever you do is ultimately your choice. Sometimes it may be a "Hobsons choice" (A choice you would rather not make!) but you always choose to do it or not. If you can recognise this it puts you back in charge of all that you do, it can empower you. It isn't always easy to see this especially if the "order" comes from someone we are frightened of (your father perhaps?) but it is still true that we choose either not to do it, i.e. defy the "order", or we choose to do it because on balance we feel safest choosing that. Whichever it is, it is a choice we make! So, the next time you feel you are being told what to do stop and think a moment 'what would it be in my best interest to do - do it or not do it?' If you choose not to do it simply because you are being told to do it then you could be choosing something that you know is not in your best interests. So now who is being manipulated into doing the wrong thing? Ignore being told - think what is in my best interest, what do I want to do and do that. Own your own choice don't let the other person influence it at all!! Oh! and that includes me!!! I'll shut up now ...... maybe ............. if I choose to ........ which I do because on balance I think it will be in my best interest because if I don't you might get mad and not talk to me again!!!

6th February 2012, 03:22 AM
Me get mad at YOU!!?? Never!!! Well, how my doc and I worked it out is...she stops pushing and I think about what she said and then I usually agree with her and do what she asks or suggests. Since my father pushed me around...I don't like to be pushed so it's a "knee-jerk" reaction to push back or say "no". I'm a bit better about it now, but I still get my "hackles" up if I think someone is ordering me about!! High pressure salesmen don't do well with me...so there is an up side to this!!! :)
Old Wolf
6th February 2012, 05:34 AM
I'm a bit like you when it comes to the salesmen ..... and, in fact, being pushed into things I don't want to do. I can be very stubborn -- sometimes to my own detriment!! I do not like being put under pressure to do something.
Early client day today so I have to get off and get some breakfast and generally prepare. I hope it's not too icy on the pavements, I don't fancy going a purler -- I don't seem to bounce as well these days....................
Katmandu40
6th February 2012, 11:41 AM
I come from German and some Irish stock...so I can definitely be stubborn!!! ;) I hope you don't go bouncing down the pavements either!!! Do be careful! I would rather have you all in one piece, thank you very much! Hope you have a good day and I'll talk to you again soon!

Managed to negotiate the trip to the surgery without incident thankfully. There actually seems to be an ongoing thaw at present which is nice. The rest of the eastern side of Britain seems to be freezing but we often have slightly different weather because of our proximity to the coast.
Do you have the Irish temper? It seems wrong to ask that somehow -- it suggests all Irish people have strong tempers.
I have to go on a paper hunt now as I seem to have lost two items 1) A magazine I wanted and 2)The letters giving the times of my hospital appointments!! I suspect they have been put out with the refuse in which case there's no chance of finding them!!!! "See" you later...............................
Katmandu40
7th February 2012, 03:23 AM
I do have a temper, but it takes a good deal to get it going...usually anyway. Besides, that's just the "red-headed" irish...hahaha...so rumor has it. I don't believe that every red-headed Irishman/woman has a hot temper.
Oh dear...I hope you find your papers!!! Especially the hospital appointments! Good luck with that!

7th February 2012, 06:10 AM
I did, I did, I did!! Find the bits I'd lost. Don't ask me how but I found them sitting on the end of the bed in the guest room. I can only think that I was in the process of taking them to the office when I got sidetracked -- something that seems to happen a lot these days!!
Ah, so you're not a redhead then? It's strange how we form these national stereotypes isn't it...........................
Katmandu40
7th February 2012, 12:08 PM
Good for you!!!! I'm glad you found your papers! That happens to all of us, I'm afraid...getting sidetracked.
Nope, not a redhead...brown hair (or it was)...now it's more like "salt and pepper"...there is a lot of silver there now. I earned every one of those silver hairs!!!! :)
Old Wolf
7th February 2012, 10:15 PM
I've gone through the salt & pepper and the grey and am now at the very diminished white cloud stage. I still have dark eyebrows but even they are showing signs of changing!!
You should wear your own silver threads with pride .... battle scars of life.........."see" you in the morning - evening your side I suppose?

I'm looking at your last post at night...will see your next post in the morning....gets confusing. It's 11:30pm here now, so I guess it's about 5:30am there?? We have the time change in the fall and spring...so I think we go from being 5 hours apart to 6 hours apart in winter. Oh well...we are supposed to get some snow tomorrow. Not much, but it's been so mild it will seem strange! Did you get all your wood cut that you needed to get cut outside (sorry, don't remember what was being cut)?
Old Wolf
8th February 2012, 05:58 AM
It was about 4-30a.m. here when your message came in. We also change the clocks in autumn and spring. For reference it's now not quite 7.00a.m. here.
I got the boards (sheet MDF) all cut but I have not done much since. I need to be able to get into the back yard to plane the edges down to actual size. Hopefully I will be able to do that soon - most of the snow is gone now - from the yard at least!
Katmandu40
8th February 2012, 11:51 AM
I did not know you changed clocks too...duh!!! Interesting. So there is 5 hours difference. I realize just how ignorant I am about Europe even though I have visited part of it at one time. Now, what were those boards for??? What is the project again...I forgot. You finished the fireplace right...complete with picture hanging over the mantle?? Or do I have that all fouled up?? They say the memory is the first to go!!
Old Wolf
8th February 2012, 02:46 PM
Two original pictures in the room plus a mirror over the fire place --- all done in that room (dining room) except for some shelves in the alcove.
The boards are grooved to look like 4" V matching Tongue and grooved wood. These are for cladding the lower half (below the dado rail) in the lower hall replacing some "plastic" finished 'orrible brown wood look alike (only it doesn't --- look like wood!) sheeting that is falling off.
Yeah, we have Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and British Summer Time (BST). I can never remember which is forward and which is back!!!
Am off shopping now..........................
Katmandu40
9th February 2012, 03:27 AM
OK now I have a better picture of your project. We have Daylight Savings Time and Eastern Standard Time...we remember it as "Spring ahead" 1 hour..."Fall BacK".
We had a bit of snow this afternoon...not too much though. It's going to be colder over the weekend than it has been all winter!!! But, still not too bad considering.
The kitchen is taking shape...starting to look like something other than a gutted room!!! Still a long way to go though.
Old Wolf
9th February 2012, 07:19 AM
Kitchen is sounding good. How much longer do you reckon it will be?
We are being told to expect another 4" of snow tonight and plummeting temperatures -- some places expected to drop as low as -15 at times!! It's wierd because the deviding line between the warm air and the cold arctic air is right across the country in an odd way which means Scotland has +5-7 while further south and west the overnight temperature is really low!
I have a bit of shopping to do so will get that out of the way before the snow comes. Keep warm.......................
Katmandu40
9th February 2012, 12:04 PM
Well they've only been at the kitchen for 2 weeks so far....so about another 4 weeks more or less. Feels like it's been much longer!!!!
Wow...we aren't getting that cold....more like normal for this time of year (which will feel cold). We have been spoiled by the warmer temps. You are the one that needs to keep warm my friend!!!!! Today is my session....so talk to you later.
Old Wolf
9th February 2012, 05:10 PM
Now I'm confused - for some reason I thought your sessions were only every other week and I seem to remember you going last week............. sooooo, somehwere in all that I am in a muddle, but then what's new?
The snow arrived about 2 hours ago - earlier than forecast. Just hope we don't get too much overnight as we have to go to doctors at 11.00a.m. tomorrow and they never clear the town roads at all these days. I wonder what the point of clearing the major routes is when nobody can get out of town to go on them??!!
I'm away to get some tea...how did the session go?................
Katmandu40
10th February 2012, 03:26 AM
No I see my doc every Thurs. It was an ok session I guess...feeling a bit down and not sure why...wonder if it was something in the session. Could just be that I'm tired.
Oh no! I hope you make it to your doctors appointment tomorrow! Are you supposed to get much snow? We are supposed to get some tomorrow night into Sat., but not much accumulation. Good luck tomorrow(today)!
Old Wolf
10th February 2012, 06:51 AM
We seem to have had about 3"-4" of snow but some of it melted as it hit the ground so there are little patches of bare ground and patches about 2" deep -- not too bad. I think other areas have had it worse ..... our worst snow comes from the northeast normally, this was coming more from the northwest.
Hopefully, we should be able to drive across town to the doctors O.K. -- have to wait and see. Mind you, I may have to shift snow away from the garage doors before we can get out!!
It could well be something unconscious got a little bit disturbed in the session -- a bit like mud on the bottom of a pond. It can also be very tiring work in a session .... folk don't realise how much of a strain it can be.
Katmandu40
10th February 2012, 11:20 AM
I'm glad you didn't get too much snow! I do love snow but it can be a pain if you need to be somewhere. I'm in a better mood today, so may just have been a mild disturbance and tired. Yes...it is a lot of work. As my doc has said, it's probably the hardest work I will ever do (she has reminded me of this many times over the years). Today is take the dog for a walk day! I may start adding days soon...like another day next week. "fairy" warns me to take it slow though, but one more day a week might be good. Hope you make out at the docs. ok!!
Old Wolf
10th February 2012, 12:59 PM
The docs was for my wife, just a check up to see if the meds are controlling her diabetes which they seem to be. Good.
I think "fairy" is right and that you will know when it's O.K. to expand the routine. What drives it is the desire in you to bring about change for the better in your own life.
The bulk of the snow has melted already thankfully. I even got to the building supplies to order some new dado for the hallway.
How did the walk go - good I trust? I'm sure you will eventually acheive all you would like to - once you get it rolling the process does begin to speed up ... a sort of exponential growth!!...............
Katmandu40
11th February 2012, 03:01 AM
Glad to hear your wife is doing well with her meds. "Fairy" had it's work cut out for it today...I really didn't want to go for a walk!!! I was tired and just didn't feel like moving. Eventually "fairy" and I got me going and I did my walk...I didn't give myself much credit for it though now that I think back on it...that's not good. I will do so right now!!
