So today i went to get my hair cut and because of the credit crunch i decided to go to the local college and get it cut by trainees. It was only £4.50 (compared to the usual £27 that i normally pay!) and i was a little scared at first, but, it's fantastic!! Ok so it took 2 hours and the girl had to keep getting her teacher for help, but my hair looks great

So i hear you saying 'what has this got to do with counselling'!? But it got me thinking - my hairdresser was SO careful, really taking care over every little snip. She took her time and kept going to her teacher (supervisor) for support and to make sure she was on track. I felt really well looked after and have come out really happy and will definitely recommend them to anyone!

I was thinking that people in any profession have to start somewhere.. and just because they're trainees it doesn't mean they don't give a good service. I guess i only went for a trim so not that much could have gone wrong, but i have a new faith in trainees!! I know that may sound odd.. it's just when i enquired with a 'clinic' about therapy they offered me reduced rate counselling with trainees.. it kinda scared me and put me off, cos i had this image that trainees wouldn't be as experienced or be able to cope with me.

But now i'm thinking that actually trainees seem even more self aware than people who have been doing a job for many years. You know what i mean!? I can't quite put it in to words, i just was thinking outloud and wanted to share my thoughts here :)

I agree with your opinion. Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and it's not always dependant on the counsellors experience, whether or not you get along with them or not. Sometimes, you just have to 'click' with them and it works, regardless of the experience that they have. Does that even make sense?
