How long after starting counselling did you feel you could open up to him/her? Was trust an issue for you?
For me, I actually felt at ease on the second session, I think it was partly due to being desperate to open up to someone after keeping negative thoughts bottled up for so long. She is an amazing counsellor,I guess I got lucky on my first try :)

When I had monthly sessions with my social worker, I only met with her nine times. I probably didn't give her much of a chance, and we maybe could have gotten some real work done. Yes, trust was an issue for me. I never really opened up to her. I guess I was either too nervous, or I felt like she wasn't listening. I don't think she was that bad a counselor, something just didn't "click" with us. Learn from experience, I guess :)

It took me about a year to begin truly trusting my therapist.. was a very rocky road and boy did i test and push her boundaries in the meantime.
I guess it's normal to test people out though before trusting them.. if you think about every day life, it could be harmful to trust everyone we meet in the street. It's normal and healthy to want to give ourselves a bit of time before opening up to a stranger about our deepest thoughts and fears.
That's my excuse anyway and i'm sticking with it :old:

First counsellor within the first 10 minutes.
If I don't feal at ease within the first session I don't come back.
2nd Consellor (shrink) work had sent me there so I knew she was going to be reporting back to them, so it wasn't until after she wrote the first report back, and also until I knew that she wasn't going to lock me up if I said the wrong thing.
