I joined Freecycle (http://www.freecycle.org) a while ago and love it! I signed up to mailing groups in my area so am informed when people are getting rid of, or want, items in the area.. things range from TVs to cat scratching posts, to pens! It's really quite amazing and all free.
You have to be quick though as I've never actually managed to get anything as someone always replies to them before me!
Also be ware that there are loads and loads of emails a day, so it's probably best to go on the 'daily digest' so you only get one or two a day (but this could be why i am never quick enough!?)

Check it out and see if you can get something free :D
Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,723 groups with 6,603,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun!
