I got told to read The Northern Lights and to watch Hairspray, (by two different people) and simply because they thought that I'd like them both, which I did!

A counsellor years ago recommended 'Counselling For Toads' because she said it explained Transactional Analysis quite well and was easy to read.. i read it and loved it and indeed went on to do a course in TA :)

No but I once told my counsellor via email that I am buying a book which I think will be really insightful for me. (I was planning on giving it to her to read after I read it) but the next session, when I wanted to give her the book she said "I hope you dont mind but when you mentioned the book that time in your email I ordered it too. So I could read it"
I felt kind of bad because it was an expensive book. Turned out I hated it too. What a waste of money.

My first counsellor told me she had been reading ACoA after she found out that my dad was an alcoholic.

So they bought books I liked or had lol

i love that book counseling for toads.sometimes books will come up in a session and if a rapport has been developed its okay to exchange titles so as to speak. i think though relevant to what it is your client might need, not the latest offering from james patterson!!

Just to mention that quite a range of films (vids and dvd's) are sometimes used as 'exposure' when working with PTSD.

Have been given photocopies of pages out of a book, and she even blacked out some of the writing, I then held the paper up to the light to work out what she blacked out. She gave me a small book on depression.
