The stigma attached to mental health issues in this country remains prevalent, especially within the workplace.
With around 15% of the population now suffering from depression, the government has earmarked £173m to develop the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (IAPT) which will treat 900,000 people and aims to train 3600 new therapists over the next two years.
In light of this investment, we would like to hear from anyone who is considering changing careers to become a psychotherapist or councillor, or anyone currently training who would like advice on how best to develop in this field.
Please join the discussion to discuss experiences, share advice and to talk to our panel of experts which will include:
Dr Elizabeth Reddish, is a psychonalytic psychotherapist in private practice and offers Career Consultancy based on a psychoanalytic model. She is executive of both the British Psychoanalytic Council and the London Centre for Psychotherapy.
Dr Paul Blenkiron, an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and member of the Public Education Committee at The Royal College of Psychiatrists. Also a specialist in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Dr Judith Green from the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education. Dr Green is an accredited counsellor and supervisor with The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and has taught at Cambridge since 1998.
Philip Hodson, spokesperson for The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Mr Hodson is an experienced broadcaster, presenter, author and journalist, a Fellow of BACP and accredited registered therapist.
Dr Jill Boswell, a psychoanalyst and member of The British Psychoanalytical Society.
Dr David Hewison, a senior couples psychotherapist at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships. He teaches on psychotherapy training and is also a Jungian analyst and member of the Society of Analyitcal Psychology.
More experts to be confirmed.
The Q&A is now open for advance questions, please post early to be sure of a reply.
