I am really grateful to the new ads that are being shown recently on tv and the internet showing teens what abuse actually looks like. There was an ad running at the top of Hope actually and its worth watching. Its very sad but I am sure it could teach many adults something too.

This ad is relevant to me because I have been abused by a partner and for me it was a gradual breakdown of respect and I didn't see how my self esteem was being chipped away and whilst I knew that I was depressed and unhappy I wasn't really sure why and did feel that our problems were probably my fault.

I think it would have helped me to see an example of what unacceptable behaviour looks like because when you see it happening to someone else you know its not right..

Hi Cherrypie

I haven't seen this advert on tv yet so i'm glad that you posted it here. I think adverts like these are needed and raise awareness, etc. It's like the adverts about drink driving or speeding.. they're really clever as there's not really anything gory or explicit, but they really make you think.

Thanks for sharing and I'm sorry for what you went through with your partner.

Good ad! Thanks for the link to see it. We should have something like it in the States!

i think both ads are brilliantly made in that it shows an example and you're right its easier to say its not right when you see it on others

Hi Cownes..

I really do understand what you are saying and I am sorry they upset you when they come on. Its certainly can be a shock to watch this kind of advert and I wonder how many people do get quite distressed by this kind of shock advertising.. I wonder if it is the best way to educate

I guess because I have some distance on my situation now and plenty of therapy that my feeling is that whilst I certainly can't say I like them either I do feel the message they carry is an important one and worth the discomfort that I suppose a lot of people will feel if they have ever been affected. That is the risk with this kind of advert I suppose...much like Jennys one as well.. people affected by drink driving may also find them very disturbing especially if they have suffered recently or are not recovered from their own injury or loss.

It is a difficult choice to have them or not have them but I just pray that in having them out there and raising awareness it may save a life.
